摘要： A method to determine at least one formation property of a subterranean formation includes providing a downhole electromagnetic logging tool having at least one transmitter array and one receiver array and acquiring measurements in the formation using the transmitter and receiver arrays of the downhole electromagnetic logging tool. The method further includes performing a first inversion in response to the measurements, wherein at least one of dip or dip azimuth are assumed constant in an inversion zone within the formation to obtain an inverted formation model that comprises at least one of horizontal resistivity (Rh), vertical resistivity (Rv), dip, and dip azimuth. The method includes determining an n-th order partial derivative matrix of at least one of dip or dip azimuth, wherein n is greater than or equal to 1. The method includes performing a second inversion using the determined n-th order partial derivative matrix, wherein at least one of dip and dip azimuth are allowed to vary in the inversion zone, to obtain an updated formation model. The method includes determining the at least one formation property of the formation using the updated formation model.

摘要： Adsorbed gas in a formation may be estimated. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data for a subsurface geological formation is obtained, and at least a portion of the NMR data is corrected to produce corrected NMR data. A NMR-based estimate of formation porosity is determined using the corrected NMR data. Dielectric permittivity data for the subsurface geological formation is obtained, and a dielectric permittivity-based estimate of the formation water-filled porosity is determined using the dielectric permittivity data. A gas volume is determined using the determined NMR-based estimate of the formation porosity and the determined dielectric permittivity-based estimate of the formation water-filled porosity. The gas volume may be determined by subtracting the determined dielectric permittivity-based estimate of the formation water-filled porosity from the determined NMR-based estimate of the formation porosity. The gas volume per unit volume of the formation may be determined using an equation of state.

摘要： A method for determining at least one characteristic of a geological formation having a borehole therein may include collecting first and second dataset snapshots of the geological formation from the borehole. The method may further include generating a differential dataset based upon the first and second dataset snapshots, determining a multi-dimensional space based upon the differential dataset, and generating a first hybrid dataset based upon the first dataset snapshot by projecting the measurement data from the first dataset snapshot parallel to the multi-dimensional space and onto a complementary multi-dimensional space not parallel to the multi-dimensional space. A second hybrid dataset may also be generated based upon the second dataset snapshot by projecting the measurement data from the second dataset snapshot parallel to the same multi-dimensional space and onto the same complementary multi-dimensional space, and the characteristic(s) associated with the geological formation may be determined based upon the first and second hybrid datasets.

摘要： Various embodiments of methods and systems for wireless power and data communications transmissions to a sensor subassembly below a mud motor in a bottom hole assembly are disclosed. In a certain embodiment, a float valve is located above the motor. Power is supplied by a turbine or by batteries located in a subassembly above the float valve. Wires pass through the float valve and connect to an annular coil. Power is transmitted through the annular coil to an inductively coupled second, mandrel coil that is attached to the rotor. By leveraging resonantly tuned circuits and impedance matching techniques for the coils, power can be transmitted efficiently from one coil to the other despite relative movement and misalignment of the two coils.

摘要： A logging tool having a plurality of different sensor types having close spacings mounted on an articulated or extendible pad, a sleeve, a mandrel, a stabilizer, or some combination of those is provided and used to make measurements in a wellbore in a single logging run. Those measurements are used to create images of the wellbore and the images are used to deduce the local geology, optimize well placement, perform geomechanical investigation, optimize drilling operations, and perform formation evaluation. The logging tool includes a processor capable of making those measurements, creating those images, performing those operations, and making those determinations. The plurality of different sensors may be one or more resistivity sensors, dielectric sensors, acoustic sensors, ultrasonic sensors, caliper sensors, nuclear magnetic resonance sensors, natural spectral gamma ray sensors, spectroscopic sensors, cross-section capture sensors, and nuclear sensors, and they may be "plug-and-play" sensors.

摘要： A method and system for determining a geometry of a borehole includes forming an nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) caliper with a plurality of coils and coupling the NMR caliper to a borehole assembly. The NMR caliper may be calibrated for porosity and the T2 of the drilling mud, prior to drilling, at the surface. After drilling commences, scans of the borehole may be conducted with each coil of the NMR caliper. Each scan may include propagating RF energy across a range of frequencies with each coil in order to excite a NMR signal at varying depths. Borehole wall distances from the NMR caliper may be determined by reviewing a plurality of T2 distributions from CPMG measurements derived from the scans. In some embodiments, borehole wall distances from the NMR caliper may be determined by reviewing porosity values derived from the scans.
