    • Embodiments are directed to techniques to manage service requests in a wireless network. In one embodiment, an apparatus may comprise processing circuitry. The apparatus may further include computer-readable storage media having stored thereon instructions for execution by the processing circuitry. The instructions, when executed, may determine, at user equipment (UE) operating in an Evolved Packet System (EPS) mobility management (EMM)-IDLE mode and configured to use EPS services with control plane Cellular Internet of Things (CIoT) EPS optimization, to initiate a service request procedure to enable transfer of user data via a control plane, generate a service request message that contains a service type information element (IE) comprising a service type value set to indicate either a mobile originating request or a mobile terminating request, and send the service request message to a mobility management entity (MME) to initiate the service request procedure. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

    • Techniques for continued data transmission during handover operations are described. In one embodiment, for example, an apparatus may comprise processing circuitry and computer- readable storage media having stored thereon instructions for execution by the processing circuitry to receive, at a source evolved node B (eNB), a measurement report from a user equipment (UE). The source eNB may send a handover request indicating handover capabilities of the UE to a target eNB. The source eNB may receive a handover acknowledgment from the target eNB, the handover acknowledgement including an uplink grant schedule. The source eNB may send a handover command to the UE, the handover command including the uplink grant schedule. The source eNB may stop a data transmission by the source eNB to the UE based upon an indication that a handover operation is complete. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

    • Wireless link management techniques for wireless charging systems are described. According to some such techniques, a power receiving unit (PRU) may be configured to observe a rectifier voltage while operating in a charge complete connected (CCC) mode according to which it possesses a wireless connection with a power transmitting unit (PTU) operating in a power save state. In various embodiments, the PRU may be configured to observe the rectifier voltage in an attempt to detect power beacons generated by the PTU. In some embodiments, the PRU may be configured to maintain the wireless connection if it detects power beacons, and to terminate the wireless connection if it does not detect any beacons. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Instantaneous annoyance values a1(j), a2(j), and ab(j) for each of the call quality values for each of the IP streams within sampled time period (N) are calculated. Current accumulated annoyance values A1(i), A2(i), and Ab(i) are obtained by summing instantaneous annoyance values a(j) for each IP network. The combined IP stream accumulated annoyance values Ab(i) is compared to a handoff threshold values Hb(i). A handoff of the telephone call to a circuit-switched cellular communication link is initiated when the accumulated annoyance value Ab(i) is greater than the handoff threshold value Hb(i).
