    • A pressure regulator system for a pneumatically or hydraulically actuated weld head (10). The weld head (10) includes a switching valve (21) comprising several ports: an inflow port (44) attached to a source of pressurized gas, preferably air; an exhaust port (46); a first line port (50); and a second line port (48). Two-way valves (52, 54) are provided on the first line port (50) and the second line port (48). A valve sensor (56) connected to a switch (40) for determining weld force in the weld head (10) is connected to means (82) for simultaneously closing the first line port valve (50) and the second line valve port (48) when a desired weld force is attained between one or more electrodes (14, 15) and a workpiece (16), thereby maintaining a constant, maximum pressure in the cylinder (12) and consequently maintaining the desired weld force between the electrode(s) (14, 15) and the workpiece (16) during the welding operation.

    • A system, method, and apparatus for coordinating tasks in a control system for an optical disc drive for optical media with a pitted premastered area that cannot be overwritten and a grooved user-writeable area that can be overwritten. The optical disc drive includes a first processor operable to communicate with a second processor, wherein the first processor includes instructions for performing non-time-critical tasks, and the second processor includes instructions for performing time-critical tasks, such as reading from and writing to optical media in the disc drive. The first processor monitors the status of the time critical tasks in the second processor and transmits commands to perform operations in the second processor. The first processor also controls power mode, manages recovery from errors, controls focus, tracking/seeking, spin, physical sector address (PSA), a laser, adjusts gains, and monitor cartridge load/eject. The first processor sequences and monitors functions performed in the second processor and the second processor issues an interrupt when an error condition is detected in the second processor. The first processor detects the interrupt, and disables detecting further interrupts until the interrupt is serviced. Servicing the interrupt includes recording the error state and changing focus and tracking parameters based on the error condition detected. The first processor can be used to perform other tasks while it is waiting to receive a notice of a new command, a notify event, or a performance event.

    • In order to generate a lens position signal (LCE), which describes the position of the optical axis of an objective lens (6) of an apparatus for reading from and/or writing to an optical recording medium (7) with regard to the optical axis of the remaining components (2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9) contained in an optical scanner (21), the application of the DPP method is proposed in accordance with a first exemplary embodiment, wherein a primary-beam error signal (CPP) and a secondary-beam error signal (OPP) are obtained with the aid of the DPP method, wherein the desired lens position signal (LCE) is generated by addition of the primary-beam error signal (CPP) and the secondary-beam error signal (OPP). In accordance with a second exemplary embodiment, it is not necessary to generate a primary beam, rather it suffices to detect the secondary beams reflected from the optical recording medium (7) in order to obtain the lens position signal (LCE) by addition of the secondary-beam error signals (OPP1, OPP2) generated in a manner dependent thereon.
