    • Method and apparatus for sequentially forming, wrapping and compressing a catheter balloon (20) either during the initial manufacturing process or after a medical procedure. The balloon (20) may be formed, wrapped and compressed by simply advancing the balloon (20) through a balloon wrapping tool (10) and selectively inflating and deflating the balloon (20) therein. The balloon wrapping tool (10) preferably includes a flap forming bore (18), a flap wrapping bore (37) and a flap compression bore (39) which form, wrap and compress the balloon (20), respectively, when the balloon (20) is advanced therethrough.

    • An inflatable medical balloon (40) at its distal end for introduction into a body part especially through an endoscope (46) and method of making the balloon. When fully inflated, the balloon (40) is a continuous body of balloon material with a generally cylindrical shape and four ribs (44) formed in the body. The ribs (44) are longitudinally and equidistantly arranged around an axis (A) which extends from the proximal end to the distal end of the balloon (40). The ribs (44) are formed of stressed balloon material. Webs (45) of less stressed balloon material are disposed between the ribs (44), the ribs and the webs forming the balloon (40) and being expandable from a folded condition for insertion into the body part to an expanded condition with a generally cylindrical shape and a diameter substantially greater than the folded condition whereby to provide medical treatment and, after treatment, being revertible into a folded condition of predetermined configuration with the webs (45) between the ribs (44) collapsing inwardly towards the axis (A).

    • A medical balloon comprises a first end, a second end spaced apart from the first, and a generally cylindrical balloon wall extending therebetween to define an inflation chamber. The balloon wall is adapted for inflation from a first folded configuration having a first plurality of pleats to an expanded, unpleated configuration, and deflation therefrom to a second folded configuration having a second plurality of pleats. The balloon wall includes a first layer formed of a polymer and having a substantially constant radial thickness. A second layer is firmly attached to the first layer and has a plurality of first regions of greater radial thickness interleaved with a plurality of second regions of reduced radial thickness. During deflation from the expanded, unpleated configuration to the second folded configuration, the balloon wall folds along the regions of reduced radial thickness of the second layer to form the second plurality of pleats.
