    • The present invention relates to a lithium secondary battery comprising a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separator interposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and a non-aqueous electrolytic solution in which a lithium salt is dissolved in a non-aqueous solvent. The separator comprises a porous base having pores and a porous coating layer located on at least one side of the porous base, the porous coating layer comprising a mixture of particles of inorganic substances and a binder polymer, wherein the particles of inorganic substances are interconnected and fixed with one another by the binder polymer, and the pores are formed by the interstitial volume between particles of the inorganic substances. The non-aqueous solvent is a highly viscous non-aqueous solvent having a viscosity at 25? greater than 1.4cP. According to the present invention, the lithium secondary battery has a non-aqueous solvent with a high viscosity and a separator with excellent wettability for the non-aqueous solvent and therefore, the lithium secondary battery has improved safety and excellent charge and discharge characteristics.
