    • A pen point structure made of a combination of a ball retainer tube and a ball receiving-core of metallic materials, such as stainless steel or other kinds of steel, and a ball of ceramic materials or metallic materials, such as stainless steel or other kinds of steel, and used as a pen point, which requires to have a high productivity, excellent writing properties and, especially, excellent ink extraction performance, for ball-point pens used for various purposes. This pen point is constructed as follows. A ball-receiving core (2) is caulked in a ball retainer tube (1) with an axially-extending through space (a) left therebetween. An ink passage (b) is formed so as to extend along a flat end surface portion (2a), which constitutes a bottom surface of a ball retaining portion (4) in an end section of the interior of the ball retainer tube (1), of the ball-receiving core (2) in such a manner that the ink passage (b) is communicated with the end of the through space (a). The ink passage (b) in the pen point structure is formed so that it extends so as to be independent of or communicated with or surround a central portion of a ball-receiving surface (6). The ball-receiving core (2) is formed so that the outer diameter thereof is larger than the diameter of a ball (3). The inner diameter of the ball retainer tube (1) is set substantially equal to the diameter of the ball (3). The inner surface of the ball retainer tube (1) and the outer surface of the ball-receiving core (2) have similar cross-sectional shapes, i.e. circular or square cross-sectional shapes, or different cross-sectional shapes, i.e. circular and square cross sectional shapes. The ball-receiving core (2) has in its outer circumferential surface a spiral groove (8) or axial recesses (9). A caulked portion (5) consists of axially-extending projections or a circumferentially-extending projection. The ball (3) is formed spherically or like a roll. The width of the capillary ink flow space (a) is substantially 25-100 mu , and the width and depth of the ink passage (b) substantially 25-100 mu and 100-20 mu , respectively.

    • The structure of a ball-point pen tip comprising the combination of a ball holding tube made of any material selected from metals such as stainless steel, plastics such as super-engineering plastics or ceramics, a ball retaining core and a ball, and satisfying various requirements for ball-point pens using a low-viscosity ink, such as drain-back resistance of ink, smooth beginning of writing, returnability of ink, high-speed writability, stable ink supply smooth ball rotation and high productivity. The ball retaining core (2) is fixed within the ball holding tube(1) and the ball (4) is rotatably retained in a ball holding unit (3). An ink communication space (5), which communicates with this ball holding unit (3), is defined between the outer surface portion (6) of the ball retaining core (2) and the inner surface portion (7) of the ball holding tube (1) in such a manner that ink can flow in an axial direction through capillaries. A projecting wall portion (12) is formed between the external portion (9) of a substantially flat, ball retaining portion (8) of the ball retaining core (2) at the ball holding unit (3), the surface portion (10) of the ball (4) adjacent to the former and the inner surface portion (11) of the ball holding tube (1), so that a capillary guide path (13) of the ink communicating with the ink communication space (5) is defined between the surface portion (10) of the ball (4) and the projecting wall portion (12). The projecting wall portion (12) of this pen tip structure is formed at the external portion (9) and/or the inner surface portion (11). The cross-sectional area of the ink communication space (5) is set to be greater than that of the capillary guide path (13) without changing the capillary gap.
