    • A method for driving pixels in a display device with an image signal is disclosed wherein the image signal comprises grey level information of an image to be rendered by the display device. The method comprises: dividing the image signal into sections, each section having a duration of a section period; dividing the section period into a plurality of adjacent, weighted sub-section periods; selecting for each of the pixels to be driven during the section period a sequence of adjacent sub-section periods in dependence on the grey level information, the selectable sequences lacking a common starting and ending point; driving the pixels during the sequences of adjacent sub-section periods. The method may be applied to displays driven by a pulse width modulated signal, such as sub-field as well as sub-line operated displays including plasma display panels, dynamic foil displays and passive displays.

    • The display apparatus displays a color image by controlling a number of emissions (NSP) in accordance with primary video signals (R, G, B). A calculating circuit (CC, CS) calculates a weighted sum (IL) of the primary video signals (R, G, B) and limits the number of emissions (NSP) dependent on the weighted sum (IL). In the weighted sum (IL), at least one of the primary video signals (R, G, B) is weighted differently than another one of the primary video signals (R, G, B). This allows selecting the contribution of the different primary colors (R, G, B) to the weighted sum (IL) such that the number of emissions (NSP) is controlled differently for different primary colors (R, G, B). Consequently, the power (P) can be limited for each of the primary colors (R, G, B) at substantially the same value.

    • A plasma display apparatus comprises a waveform generator (WG) coupled between first and the second electrodes (SE1, CE1) to supply, across plasma cells (PCij), a sustain voltage (VCP) with slopes comprising a main part (MA) and a minor part (MI) succeeding the main part (MA). The main part has a duration longer than a formative time 5 lag (FTL) of the plasma cells (PCij), and the minor part has a smaller amplitude than the main part (MA). The plasma cells (pCij) are ignited and sustained by the minor part (MI). The main part (MA) has less steep slopes than the prior-art waveform. Consequently, the EMI produced by the main part (MA) will be at a lower frequency. The minor part (MI) has an amplitude which is relatively low and thus does not add considerably to the EMI, even 10 when its slopes are relatively steep. As the plasma is neither ignited nor sustained by the main part (MA), the main part (MA) further has a lower amplitude than the slope of the prior art and thus produces less EMI.
