    • A pixel structure, which forms one element of a focal plane array, includes a bolometer having a detector and an insulator. The detector that is made from a material that absorbs incident thermal radiation and has an electrical resistance that varies in response to change in the temperature of the material. The insulator has a plurality of serpentine legs disposed completely underneath the detector so that the insulator extends between the detector and the substrate. And the insulator supports the detector in a spaced-apart relationship with respect to the substrate to thermally isolate the detector from the substrate. To further improve the performance of the bolometer, the bolometer includes a resonant layer between the detector and the insulator. The resonant layer is disposed such that areas defined between the detector and the resonant layer, and between the resonant layer and the insulator, form first and second resonant cavities, respectively.

    • Systems and methods for providing a wider FOV for a telescope system are disclosed. In one embodiment, a telescope includes a primary mirror having an orifice, where an optical path originates from an object positioned in front of the primary mirror and reflects off the primary mirror. A secondary mirror is disposed adjacent to the primary mirror, where the optical path reflects off the secondary mirror and passes through the orifice in the primary mirror. The telescope includes a set of extended field corrector optics disposed along the optical path, the extended field corrector optics positioned to reflect light incident from the secondary mirror, where the set of extended field corrector optics comprises two corrector mirrors. A tertiary mirror is disposed along the optical path and adjacent to the extended field corrector optics, the tertiary mirror positioned to reflect the light incident from the extended field corrector optics.

    • Variable aperture and actuator assemblies are provided for a radiation detector housing in an imaging system. The variable aperture assembly includes a ring mounted over the housing's window, a plate having a first aperture disposed over the window, an aperture blade operatively coupled to the ring so the blade moves laterally relative to the first aperture, and an aperture drive mechanism having a body and an actuator coupling member extending at an angle from the body. The drive mechanism is adapted to drive the blade laterally away from the first aperture when the member is moved in a first lateral direction, and over the first aperture to define a second aperture disposed over the window when the member is moved in a second lateral direction. The actuator assembly has an actuator and an actuator arm adapted to engage the actuator coupling member to control the lateral movement of the member.

    • A bearing assembly suitable for use in a gimbal servo system is provided. The bearing assembly comprises a housing, a first shaft, a bearing rotatingly coupling the first shaft to the housing such that the first shaft is adapted to rotate about an axis relative to the housing, a second shaft having a first end adapted to be coupled to a payload, and a flex pivot element pivotally coupling an end of the first shaft to a second end of the second shaft such that the second shaft is adapted to rotate relative to the first shaft via the flex pivot element. In response to a rotation of the second shaft, the flex pivot element is adapted to pivot an angle about the first shaft axis. The pivot angle reflects a displacement of the second shaft relative to the first shaft and corresponds to a friction disturbance of the bearing.
