    • The invention is an intensified field focus moving coil phonocartridge assembly (10) including a rear magnet (32) and a front magnet (34) mounted in an axially juxtaposed manner within a support sleeve (38) so as to define therewith a magnetic field chamber (36). A signal coil subassembly (26) is suspended within the field chamber (36) and affixed to a cantilever (24) having a stylus (22) on its opposite end such that vibrations of the stylus (22) are physically translated to the signal coil subassembly (26). Electrical signals generated by the currents induced in the windings (29 and 30) of the signal coil subassembly (26) by induction caused by vibration within the field chamber (36) are carried to signal output pins (18) for electronic processing. The primary usage for the phonocartridge assembly (10) is in high quality stereo phonographic equipment for playing phonograph records.

    • A phonograph pickup cartridge of moving coil type comprises a cartridge body and a stylus assembly detachably mounted on the body. The body includes a housing which firmly holds a permanent magnet and a pair of pole pieces. Magnetic gaps are defined between the pair of pole pieces in the region of the lower opening of housing. The housing carries a plurality of electrical terminal pins, which have their one end projecting externally from the rear end of the housing and which have their other end projecting through the bottom of the housing. The stylus assembly includes a knob member which supports a stylus subassembly having an armature which carries a pair of coils, and which also supports a plurality of electrical connectors which are adapted to be detachably coupled with the terminal pins. The ends of the coils are electrically connected with the connectors. When the terminal pins are engaged with the connectors, the pair of coils on the stylus assembly are properly disposed in the magnetic gaps defined between the pole pieces on the body.

    • A transducer comprises a body including a permanent magnet having a pair of pole pieces which define a magnetic gap therebetween, and a stylus assembly including a pair of coils which are positioned within the magnetic gap. The stylus assembly comprises a cantilever arm having a stylus tip at one end, a non-magnetic carrier secured to the other end of the cantilever arm, a pair of armatures in the form of rods of a magnetic material and carried on the carrier, each of the armatures having one of the coils disposed thereon, and support means for mounting the cantilever arm and the carrier on the body in an oscillatable manner. The coils and the associated armatures are located on the opposite sides of a first imaginary vertical plane which includes the axis of the cantilever arm and lie in a second imaginary vertical plane which is perpendicular to the first plane. Each armature has an axis which is parallel to a modulation axis of a sound groove of a record disk, as projected onto the second plane so as to intersect the axis of the cantilever arm. The point of intersection between the axes of the armatures is spaced from the axis of the arm in the second vertical plane and lies in the first vertical plane. The pair of pole pieces are located on the opposite sides of the second vertical plane in a manner such that the flux passing through the magnetic gap is substantially perpendicular to the second vertical plane. The body is provided with output terminals, and the stylus assembly include lead wires on which voltages induced across the respective coils are produced, the lead wires being connected with the output terminals.

    • An electrodynamic transducer comprising a source of magnetic flux and poles that define an annular gap in the flux path to obtain a radially oriented and uniformly distributed magnetic flux across the gap. Coils are mounted on a support that pivots universally about a center concentric with the gap. The coils are placed on the support so that pivotal movement of the latter causes a change in flux linkage with the coils. The coils are wound in such a manner that the electric potentials generated in diametrically opposite coils are added together. There may be sets of mutually perpendicular coils.
