摘要： An indirectly heated cathode includes a cathode sleeve (2) housing a heater (1), a caplike base (3) attached onto the cathode sleeve (2), and an electron emitter layer (4) formed on a surface of the base (3). The cathode sleeve (2) is made of a metal material that contains nickel and chromium as main components and further contains at least silicon, aluminum, cerium, and lanthanum. According to this construction, the cathode sleeve (2) is kept from heat deformation. Hence a reliable indirectly heated cathode which suppresses variations in cutoff voltage can be realized.

When the front face of the electron emissive material layer is consumed and retreats, the protrusive deformation of the cathode substrate by the metal layer is induced by a heating operation of the heater so that the front face of the electron emissive material layer is correspondingly deformed protrusively.

摘要： The invention relates to improving the efficiency of ion flow from an ion source, by reducing heat loss from the source both in the ion chamber of the ion source and its constituent parts (e.g. the electron source). This is achieved by lining the interior of the ion chamber and/or the exterior with heat reflective and/or heat insulating material and by formation of an indirectly heated cathode tube such that heat transfer along the tube and away from the ion chamber is restricted by the formation of slits in the tube. Efficiency of the ion source is further enhanced by impregnating and/or coating the front plate of the ion chamber with a material which comprises an element or compound thereof, the ions of which element are the same specie as those to be implanted into the substrate from the source thereof.

摘要： A large number of oxide cathodes are aligned in an oxide cathode aligning/fixing jig which is formed in a plate shape composed of an upper member and lower member. The horizontal positions of the oxide cathodes fit in the cut holes are fixed by the upper member. The height of the upper surface of the metallic body of each of the oxide cathodes, on which a carbonate paste is to be printed is fixed by the lower member of the jig. By performing the screen printing for the metallic bodies in a state where the upper surfaces thereon are at equal heights, misalignment in printing pattern or variation in the thickness of the printed carbonate films can be suppressed. Thus, the screen printing can be carried out for the large number of oxide cathodes at a time at precise positions and with a uniform thickness of the carbonate layer.
