    • A digital resolver processor measures the angle of a rotatable device. A resolver connected to the rotatable device generates sinusoidal signals as a function of an excitation signal and of the resolver angle. A phase shift network receives the sinusoidal signals and generates leading and lagging phase shifted signals with a relative phase shift proportional to resolver angle. A counter is enabled by the leading signal and inhibited by the lagging signal so that the contents of the counter represents the relative phase shift, and thus, the angle of the rotatable device. The angular position of the resolver is limited so that the contents of the counter is maintained within a predetermined range in the absence of a fault condition of the resolver terminals. The contents of the counter is forced outside the predetermined range in response to short or open circuit conditions of the resolver terminals, so that misleading angle representations may be recognized as such.

    • In an exemplary embodiment, an ultrasonic scanning apparatus has an articulated support for at least one scan head and angle indicators for determining point- and/or direction-coordinates of the scanning. An angle detection and processing is desired which is considerably simplified as compared with the state of the art but which is nevertheless highly precise, interference-insensitive and cost-economical. This is achieved by at least one synchro system for supplying a sine and/or cosine of the angular value of the rotational angles and including a purely electric cascade interconnection of individual synchros so as to form a synchro control transformer- or resolver-chain or a mixed chain consisting of synchro control transformer- or resolver-chain or a mixed chain consisting of synchro control transformers and resolvers for the purpose of conversion of sine- or cosine-values, respectively, of the rotational angles into sums and/or differences of individual angles and/or into sine- or cosine-functions, respectively, of such angular sums or angular differences.

    • Disclosed is a power drive circuit for driving loads such as the sine and cosine windings of a position-measuring transformer. The windings of the transformer are driven bilaterally by convertercontrolled drive circuits with substantially constant magnitude currents in both directions for selected durations to produce pulse-width modulated signals. Unwanted signals due to undesired cross coupling between sine and cosine windings are avoided by providing a constant power drain from the power source which is connected in common to all of the drive circuits. To avoid the presence of undesired even harmonic signal components, the load is supplied with a bilateral current which is symmetrical over each cycle.
