    • The shutter comprises a first and a second blind (47, 48) extending in parallel planes close to each other and wound on at least one roller (6, 9) on each side of the exposure window, which blinds each have an edge (55, 56) which edges define a shutter slit (5) between them. The roller of the first blind is driven by a first pinion (7) which is rigidly coupled to a drive mechanism (31). In accordance with the invention the shutter comprises a second pinion (11) which is rotationally coupled to the first pinion, and a third pinion (14) which is coaxial with the second pinion and which is driven by the second pinion via an angular-positioning device (59) which drives the roller (9) of the second blind; the shutter also comprises tension means (49, 52, 53) which maintain each blind in its respective plane. In this way an accurately variable width of the shutter slit can be obtained.The shutter is used in cameras for aerial or marine surveillance.

    • A focal plane shutter apparatus having two single flexible shutter blades for respectively uncovering and then covering an exposure aperture to make an exposure are incorporated into a 35 mm camera. Each shutter blade has a driven end and an opposite free end with both free ends sliding in the same guide channels across the exposure aperture. Each of the shutter blades has its driven end retained by a special rotary structure. Each rotary structure is acted upon by an adjustable acceleration spring and by a weak carry-through spring. Each shutter blade and its respective rotary driving structure are smoothly and quietly stopped by respective pairs of rocking cams which coact during shutter blade overtravel. The rocking cam structures used for stopping may be reset by another respective pair of rocking cams which coact during almost all of a shutter rewind sequence. The kinetic energy transferred through each stopping pair of rocking cams is dissipated by friction or in winding a spring, or a combination of both. A special winding mechanism provides low winding forces and capping of the shutter blades during rewind.

Mounted within the cassette is a focal plane shutter having an exposure aperture therein which is adapted to be driven across a photosensitive area of a film unit to expose the same. The camera includes a motor which is adapted to drive the shutter, i.e., actuate the shutter, thereby exposing a film unit, and film advancing apparatus which is adapted to extend into the ingress opening in the cassette to engage and move the exposed film unit out of the cassette.
