    • Embodiments of the present invention include hot-rolled threaded rebar bolts that have a substantially circular core with semi-continuous threads on opposing sides of the rebar bolts. In some embodiments of the invention the shaft is substantially void of longitudinal ribs along at least a portion of the longitudinal area between the first set of threads and the second set of threads of the shaft. The threaded rebar bolt is manufactured in a continuous hot-rolling process to create a threaded rebar shaft with semi-continuous threads and substantially no longitudinal ribs in the longitudinal areas and no additional machining is required to create the threads after the threaded shaft is created from the hot-rolling process.

    • A reinforced masonry wall system includes a foundation and layers of masonry block having aligned vertical openings formed therein. Base reinforcing members are set in the foundation and extend upright at a height approximately the same as the height of a masonry block. Covers are placed on the upper ends of the placed reinforcement members to protect the reinforcement members from falling mortar. The wall is built over the base reinforcement members. When additional vertical members are attached, the cover is removed and the ends of the reinforcing member are cleaned. An elongated reinforcing member is inserted through the aligned openings of the masonry blocks and connected to the previously attached reinforcing member. The process can be repeated to construct a wall of increased height with the reinforcing members connected in an end-to-end configuration. Tools are provided for removing the cover, cleaning the ends of the reinforcing member and tightening the newly placed reinforcing member while avoiding lifting blocks several feet over elevated vertically extending reinforcement members.

    • A supporting structure for modular building units comprising a pre-cast reinforced pre-insulated concrete slab. The supporting structure is a rectangular multi-bayed structural unit, suitable for use as a floor system or a roof, supported by composite pre-cast concrete beams integrated from the upper surface to the lower surface of the unit. At least a pair of pre-cast reinforced longitudinal beams run parallel to the length of the structure. Pre-cast reinforced composite crossbeams or purlins run in the transverse direction at regular intervals. The beams and purlins have integrated deformed reinforcing bar steel, and may include steel channel bottom reinforcement. An upper reinforcement of wire mesh is provided near the surface, welded to the reinforcing rods at intervals. The steel channel bottom reinforcement includes a plurality of spaced apart upright steel studs welded at regular intervals along the channel. In one embodiment, the beams and purlins create a series of structural recessed bays along the underside of the structure that include rigid polystyrene insulating foam for thermal and sound insulation as well as integral vapor barrier. In another, lower weight embodiment, a nonconcrete central foam core is provided, with a metal wire grid supported on each side of the foam core, with pre-cast perimeter beams and purlins.

    • Reinforcement in concrete is cathodically protected by galvanically connecting a sacrificial anode, such as a zinc or zinc alloy anode, to the reinforcement, and contacting the anode with an electrolyte solution having a pH which is maintained sufficiently high for corrosion of the anode to occur, and for passive film formation on the anode to be avoided. The pH of the electrolyte is preferably at least 0.2 units, and preferably from 0.5 units to more than 1.0 units, above the pH value at which passivity of the anode would occur. The electrolyte may be for example sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide but is preferably lithium hydroxide which also acts as an alkali-silica reaction inhibitor.
