    • A package for containing and dispensing a coil of welding wire having a coil axis parallel to a package axis, a coil top transverse to the coil axis and radially inner and outer surfaces parallel to the coil axis. The welding wire package includes a container having a bottom and an outer wall structure extending upwardly from the bottom to a top edge, and the outer wall structure has inwardly and outwardly facing surfaces. The package further includes a plurality of ribs extending parallel to the package axis and positioned between the coil outer surface and the inwardly facing surface of the outer wall structure thereby forming gaps between the coil outer surface and the inwardly facing container surface. The welding wire package further including a retainer ring for controlling the dispensing of the welding wire. The retainer ring includes a ring body extending between an inner edge defining an inner opening and an outer peripheral edge, and the outer peripheral edge includes a plurality of projections each extending beyond the outer surface of the wire coil and over a portion of the gaps.

    • A low-cost totally recyclable container made of corrugated cardboard for packaging a large mass of coiled welding wire is disclosed. The improved container minimizes the costs of packaging and avoids the need of large volumes for transportation and storage of empty containers to and from the welding wire manufacturing plant and at the welding plant. The container in kit form or assembled with or without the wire coil includes a wire retaining device of simple and inexpensive design to press down on the top of the coil of wire when in the container without binding against the inner walls of the container while preventing the wire which is arranged in a multitude of layers of wire loops from tangling during transportation, storage, and unwinding while providing effective means for smooth and uninterrupted payout of welding wire to automatic welding machines. The wire retaining device is secured relative to the inner wall of the container by means of plastic or metallic strips passing through peripheral openings in the retaining device, said strips being fixed to the wall at two vertically spaced points along the height of the welding wire mass. The container is fully recyclable avoiding the environmental impact caused by other packaging materials.

    • A paper magazine made up of a small number of parts and capable of rewinding paper pulled out of the case around the roll of paper in the magazine by turning the paper roll. The paper roll is supported on a roll support shaft provided in the magazine case. The roll support shaft includes a core support rod, a pair of cylindrical end members mounted on both ends of the core support rod, and a core mounted on the core support rod between the end members. The paper roll is mounted on the core. When the paper is pulled out of the paper roll, the core is rotated in one direction, so that one of two torsion coil springs tightens to bias the core in the paper rewinding direction. Thus, as soon as the paper is pulled back into the case, the core is turned in the rewinding direction by the one of the coil springs, so that the paper can be smoothly wound around the core.

    • A boxed spool assembly of the present invention includes a spool assembly, a pair of end plates for supporting the spool assembly for rotation, and a box in which the spool assembly and end plates are placed. The bottom of the box is self-locking and requires no tape. Further, the box is constructed so that the overlapping of multiple layers of corrugated fiberboard is avoided in the bottom of the box so that the spool assembly can rotate without interference. The box includes starburst cuts to hold the loose end of cable or wire wound on the spool assembly so that a user can readily locate the loose end. One starburst cut has a slit communicating with a horizontal slot. Cable or wire can be paid-out or held in position by pulling the cable to the slot or starburst cut, respectively, by the slit. The end plates include polycarbonate material and have openings corresponding with openings in the box, to provide handholds for the user. The end plates have arbors protruding away from the plate surfaces of the end plates to hold flanges of the spool assembly away from the end plates for frictionless rotation. The arbors of the end plates that support the spool assembly have annular flat ledge surfaces to confine the flanges of the spool assembly away from the end plates. The protrusions of the arbors are drafted or tapered to cause the spool assembly to be centered in the box and to ride away from the end plates. Corner supports are provided on the end plates to prevent the corners of the end plates from cutting through the box and also to maintain the box in the proper configuration. The arbors and corner supports include rib reinforcements. The boxed spool assembly is sized in accordance with industry standard shipment sizes.
