    • A device for applying an adhesive-backed elongated seal (e.g., a weatherstrip seal) to a surface of a substrate. The device comprises a release liner removal tool having a stripper portion. The stripper portion comprises a spacer and a release liner guide surface. The spacer has a leading edge, an angled trailing edge, a central axis and a thickness profile that separates the adhesive on the back of the seal from the substrate surface while allowing the body of the seal to contact the substrate surface, when the stripper portion is positioned between the seal and the surface. The angled trailing edge has a transverse radius of curvature allowing the release liner to be removed from the adhesive, bent-backwards-over the trailing edge, and pulled-off along a portion of the guide surface, while the seal is adhered along its length to the surface.

    • A roll-up door seal that may be monolithically formed from a single material of uniform density. The seal is sized and adapted to assemble to a standard roll-up door frame without a separate or dedicated frame structure. The seal provides redundant sealing surfaces, positioned to cooperate with both the door and door frame, which ensure an effective and durable fluid tight seal between the cargo space enclosed by the roll-up door and the ambient environment. The seal may be produced by extrusion from a flexible, weather resistant material such as EPDM, thereby providing a low cost solution for sealing roll-up doors having industry standard door frame constructions. The seal is firmly engageable with the door frame, such that the seal may be installed with little or no secondary fixation.

    • A robot hand receives a length of sealing strip and fits it onto a mounting flange surrounding a vehicle door opening. The hand is carried by the arm of a robot. As the robot moves the hand around the periphery of the door opening, the hand grips the sealing strip and drives it through the hand and around a roller so as to lay it on the flange. An appropriate length of the sealing strip is supplied to the hand by means of a cassette within which the sealing strip is coiled. The hand carries a pick-up plate which grips the cassette by means of locking members. An end of the sealing strip extends out of the cassette on a nose forming part of the inverted lid of the cassette. The cassette is then drawn towards the robot hand, forcing the nose into the entrance of the hand and thus placing the end of the sealing strip between a first pair of drive rollers which are thereafter rotated so as to drive the sealing strip out of the cassette and through the hand.

    • The invention provides an apparatus and method for mechanically applying a weather strip or other channel-shaped strip to a peripheral lip of a body or an opening, notably a vehicle door opening. The apparatus comprises a plurality of radially extensible arms extending from a centrally defined hub, each arm being operative to grip and apply the strip to the lip. The apparatus further includes a device for gripping the free ends of the sealing strip after the strip has been fed through the apparatus and for indenting the free ends radially inward while the remainder of the strip is applied to the lip. The free ends are then applied to the lip in abutting relationship. A method for applying the sealing strip is also disclosed.

    • A tool for fitting a channel-shaped sealing strip onto a flange running around a door opening, such as of a vehicle, comprises a body supporting a channel-shaped guide. Initially, the guide is used to pick up a completely closed loop of the strip, a keeper than being slid over the guide to retain the strip in position. The tool now carrying the seal is then moved towards the flange and turned through approximately 90.degree. so that two contra-rotatable rollers engage the sides of the strip on the flange and another roller engages the base of the strip. The rollers engaging the sides of the are then energized so that the tool drives around the flange, forcing the strip into position.
