    • There is provided a fastening tool including a tool body and a combustion housing defining a combustion chamber. A barrel is connected to the combustion housing and includes a barrel opening configured to receive a fastener. The tool also includes a power source configured to generate a power source signal. A power regulator is in electrical communication with the power source and is configured to receive the power source signal and transmit a power regulator output having an output magnitude. A manual power control is in operative communication with the power regulator and is configured to adjust the power regulator output magnitude. A spark generator is in electrical communication with the power regulator and is configured to generate a spark within the combustion chamber upon receipt of the power output from the power regulator. The spark includes a spark magnitude that varies in response to the power output magnitude.

    • An explosive powder charge operated fastening element setting tool has a hydropneumatic damping unit (17) and includes a housing part (1) forming a piston guide (5, 6) for driving fastening elements and a handle part (15) displaceable against the force of the damping unit (17) in the setting direction relative to the housing part (1). The handle part (15) supports a cylinder (18) containing a liquid medium (21) under gas pressure. The housing part (1) cooperates with a piston (23) displaceable in the cylinder (18) against the flow resistance of the liquid medium (21). The damping unit (17) has no moving valve parts. At least one through aperture (24) is provided for the liquid medium (21) flow between a front and a rear cylinder space when the piston (23) is displaced. The aperture (24) has a least cross-section (M) so that the liquid medium flowing into the front cylinder space as a fastening element is driven has an effective flow cross-section corresponding to the least cross-section of the aperture (21), while after the fastening element has been driven the effective flow cross-section of the aperture from the front cylinder space into the rear cylinder space is smaller than the least cross-section of the aperture.

    • An impact nailing arrangement having a nail with integral pointed target-penetration and securing forward section, rear hammer section, and medial compression shear section, the forward section having a threaded object-securing surface rearwardly of its pointed forward target-securing end. The nail is propelled into a target in the preferred embodiment by any one of several illustrated latent energy means, and the forward section is secured by initial point penetration and subsequent compression shear of the medial shear section to enable the hammer section to impart a secondary securing impact to the forward section. Various alternative propulsion arrangements including electrical actuation of a powder charge, spring actuation, and valved pressurized gas, are disclosed.

    • An explosive charge driven fastening element setting gun includes a barrel and a rotatable drum-type magazine both axially displaceable within a housing. As the barrel is displaced into the firing position it is arranged to seat into the aligned one of a number of bores in the magazine. A location on each of the axially extending surfaces of the barrel and magazine spaced axially from the location of the other is disposed in clearancefree contact with a surface within the setting gun while the remaining axially extending surfaces of each are spaced radially from the juxtaposed surfaces in the setting gun to provide lateral movement to assure alignment between the barrel and the bores in the magazine when the barrel is moved axially into the firing position.
