    • The radial run-out tool (2), particularly a drill or a cutter, has a basic body (12) extending in an axial direction (4) and comprises at least two chip grooves (14), to which a guide chamfer (22) is connected in the rotational direction (24), with a ridge (15) being formed between them. A radial clearance is connected to the guide chamfer (22). In order to enable simple and economical production of such type of radial run-out tool (2), an unprocessed rod (30) is ground non-concentrically, in a first process step, such that a radius (R) of the unprocessed rod (30) varies, depending on the angle, between a maximum radius (R2) and a minimum radius (R1). In a second process step, the chip grooves (14) are grounded down such that the guide chamfers (22) are formed at the positions with the maximum radius (R2) and the radius (R) is subsequently reduced downstream of the respective guide chamfer (22) in order to form the radial clearance (28).

    • This invention relates to an apparatus for grinding the cutting edge flank having special figure of an end mill. This apparatus comprises a grinding part (30) having a grinding wheel (31), a model guide (61) having a guide face (61a) flush with the grinding face of the grinding wheel (31) and arranged to locate under, a cutter support (40), a model support (50) for supporting a model (B.sub.1) parallel with the axial line of the cutter (A) and a shift part (70) for shifting the both support (40), (50) together toward the grinding wheel (31) and the model guide (61). The model (B.sub.1) has the same outer periphery surface as rotary contour outline of the cutter and is provided with a groove (C) so that there is formed a model line (C.sub.1) corresponding to the required cutting edge of the cutter. The cutting edge flank (24) is grinded easily and accurately in imitation of the model (B.sub.1), by turning the cutter and the model solidly in contacting the model (B.sub.1) with the guide face (61a) at the model line (C.sub.1) and contacting the cutter (A) with the grinding face (31a).

    • A machine for machining a spiral cutting edge on an elongate workpiece having a rounded head by moving the workpiece relative to a rotating tool comprises a support unit mounted for vertical translational movement and rotation about a vertical axis. The support unit carries a headstock which can be positioned to make the axis of its workpiece-carrying spindle intersect the vertical axis, and a device for helicoidally driving the headstock spindle. The support unit rests on an inclined ramp surrounding the vertical axis and along which the unit can roll to helicoidally move the headstock for spirally machining a cutting edge into the rounded end of the workpiece. Thereafter a spiral cutting edge is machined into the cylindrical shaft of the workpiece, smoothly continuing the rounded, spiral edge.

    • A complete installation is provided for grinding cutters, especially and typically, end mills, by machine controlled operations. The installation has three separate stations which, when all are used, provide maximum flexibility in the shape imparted to the end mill, accuracy of grind, and the ability to repeat or duplicate a particular grind on a series of duplicate cutters. The only manual operations are loading and unloading the end mills at each of the stations; and consequently the grinding of the mill is accomplished rapidly and at low cost.
