    • The invention of this application provides a pneumatic tool with a simple structure. The tool has a tubular housing (50), a stationary shaft (52), a first piston (56) slidable along the stationary shaft, a second piston (58), a tool attachment member (60) drivingly connected to the second piston, a compressed air supply path (70) extending through the stationary shaft to supply compressed air between the first and second pistons, and an air discharge path (76) for discharging the compressed air supplied between the first and second pistons to the outside of the housing when the first and second pistons are separated by a predetermined distance. The compressed air supply path has an axial portion (70a) in the stationary shaft and a radial portion (70b), a compressed air inlet recess (70c) in the inner wall surface of a shaft sliding hole, and a supply outlet (70d) extending forward from the forward end of the compressed air inlet recess and communicating with a portion between the first and second pistons.

    • A balanced essentially vibration-free hand-grippable fluid powered reciprocating blade cutting tool intended primarily for cutting poultry, fish and meat for processing. The tool includes a hollow handle which functions as a motor housing. Fittings are provided for connecting the housing to a source of fluid under pressure and for exhausting fluid from the housing. A reciprocable cutting blade extends forwardly from the handle. A fluid actuated motor within the handle housing includes a pair of aligned piston assemblies of approximately equal weight. The pistons are reciprocable in opposite directions. The cutting blade is secured to one of these pistons. A control valve and fluid flow passages within the housing and associated with the fluid inlet fitting permits fluid to be directed alternately to the inner and outer sides of the pistons for causing the pistons to alternately move toward one another and away from one another. A manually operable trigger controls the flow of fluid into the housing. The angle of the cutting blade relative to the handle is variable to further reduce fatigue and other problems associated with rotation of the wrist, which is a contributing cause of carpal tunnel syndrome.

    • A hydraulically operated slip assembly, connectible to a well head or well pipe handling machine and useful to intermittently grip pipe being run into or pulled from the well. The slip assembly has upper and lower plates with passages for pipe. Wedges, carrying unique slip systems, are positioned around the passages and slidably mounted for radial movement between guide plates extending from the upper and lower plates. The wedges are moved radially inward to grip pipe and radially outward to release pipe by a hydraulic cylinder, pivotally mounted aside the lower plate. When actuated to extend, the hydraulic cylinder rotates an inner bearing race and attached camming segments, which move the wedges inwardly to grip pipe. When the cylinder is actuated to contract, the bearing race and camming segments are rotated to pull the wedges outward radially, releasing pipe. The bearing outer race is housed in ring segments between and connecting the slip assembly upper and lower plates. The unique slip systems automatically increase pipe grip, on up or down movement of gripped pipe caused by very small loads. Outward force components, resulting from increased pipe grip, press the outer surfaces of the camming segments into ring segment grooves, developing forces which effectively prevent inadvertent or an purpose actuation of the cylinder from rotating the camming segments to ungrip pipe in the slip assembly.

The guide tubes include inner surface portions which overlap and slidingly engage outer surface portions of the cylinders and the torque transmitting apparatus is connected between the guide tubes.

    • A safety device for a drilling rig of the type wherein a drill-carrying cradle is caused to move upwardly or downwardly on a tower by a chain which traverses sprockets at opposite ends of the tower. Shock loads and vibration cause premature failures in the chain when withdrawing a drill string as the cradle is pulled upwardly on the tower. The present invention minimizes shock loads on the chain to minimize the possibility of a chain failure and, at the same time, prevents a fall of the cradle and drill carried thereby if the chain above it should break, this latter function being accomplished with the use of spring-loaded toothed dogs on the cradle which engage the tower and prevent movement of the cradle in the event of a chain failure.
