    • A machining apparatus has a frame having an upright front wall and two vertical guides on the front wall carrying respective spindle units displaceable on the guides and each having a workpiece holder rotatable about a respective vertical axis and vertically shiftable between a respective upper machining station and a respective lower pick-up/drop-off station. A horizontal guide on the front wall carries a tool turret carrying a tool and shiftable along the horizontal guide between one position aligned with the axis of one of the spindles and another position aligned with the axis of the other of the spindles. A conveyor transports unmachined workpieces into the lower stations and machined workpieces out of the lower stations. Respective actuators shift the spindle units vertically along the respective axis between the lower stations and the upper stations.

    • A chuck device for a machine tool includes: a center unit disposed in an axial hole in a tubular housing, extending along a hole axis of, and having a tip extending outwardly of the housing and abutting against a workpiece; a chuck unit disposed movably in the axial hole, sleeved on the center unit and including a chuck member disposed adjacent to the tip of the center unit; and a sleeve unit disposed movably in the axial hole, concentric with the housing and sleeved on the chuck unit. The sleeve unit has a pushing end portion sleeved on and abutting against the chuck member, and is operable to move relative to the housing along the hole axis such that the chuck member is driven by the pushing end portion of the sleeve unit with movement of the sleeve unit to move away from the housing and to clamp the workpiece.

    • The invention proceeds from a vacuum process apparatus for an article which is processed or treated, resp. at two stations, whereby each station has a charging and/or removing opening for the article. A transporting device is supported for rotation and includes a supporting portion which is successively moved onto the openings of the stations. The process plant is designed in such a manner that the surface normals determined by the surfaces of the openings and the space axis defined by the axis of rotation of the transport device do not run parallel and rather enclose together an angle of 90° or 45°. By such an arrangement it is possible to design extremely compact vacuum vapor deposition apparatuses having a plurality of individual stations, whereby additionally short transporting distances are obtainable and the volumes to be conditioned can be minimized.

    • A method for aligning a cylinder support in an engraver includes a step of actuating a plurality of jaws to grip the cylinder support such that the cylinder support becomes automatically aligned in the engraver. The actuating step may further include the step of inserting the cylinder support a predetermined distance into a receiving cavity, where the predetermined distance may range from about 0-300 mm. The method is further characterized in that it may include steps of biasing the plurality of jaws to a predetermined position, energizing a cylinder to cause the plurality of jaws to move substantially simultaneously towards a rotating axis of the engraver; pivoting the pivot lever to cause the jaws to actuate toward and away from a rotational axis of the engraver; and/or lubricating the plurality of jaws with a lubricant and purging the lubricant associated with the plurality of jaws; and/or indexing each of the plurality of jaws to provide a desired travel range. In one embodiment, the cylinder support includes a support shaft located on an end of the cylinder, with the support shaft having a bearing journal thereon such that the actuating step may include the step of actuating the plurality of jaw members to clamp the bearing journal, thereby causing the cylinder to be aligned in the engraver.

    • A metal support for exhaust gas cleaning has a metal honeycomb core body fabricated by laying a planar sheet on a corrugated sheet and rolling the laminated sheets into a cylindrical configuration. The corrugated sheet has sinusoidal shaped portions having a wave height which is sufficient to contact the adjacent planar sheet and square wave portions which have a wave height which is insufficient to enable contact with the adjacent sheets. The square wave portions have corners which project out beyond the sinusoidal shaped portions and produce agitation and disturb the flow of gas and to induce an increase in the contact efficiency between the gas and surfaces carrying catalytic material. The planar sheet is not limited to continuously flat sheets and can include flat surfaces formed by zigzag or square wave shaped members. These members can be perforate and or made of a mesh material.
