    • An object of the present invention is to provide a method of manufacturing a rotational shaft having a worm, wherein a worm portion has a small bending amount. According to the method of the invention, a worm portion is formed at a worm forming portion by a rolling process with rolling dies, and a small diameter portion is formed at least at one axial end of the worm forming portion, wherein a diameter of the small diameter portion is smaller than a diameter of a bottom of a worm tooth to be formed at the worm forming portion, so that surplus material portion of the worm forming portion can flow toward the small diameter portion.

    • A process is disclosed for manufacturing a gear part with outer teeth from a metallic workpiece shaped as a circular blank or predrawing. The gear part has a hub surface with outward projecting teeth. The workpiece is flattened in its circumferential area and the teeth are formed without cutting by a toothed roller (5) mounted in a freely rotary manner. While the teeth are formed by flattening the workpiece, the toothed roller (5) is fixed in the radial direction so as to not move towards the feeding axis of the spindle. The edge of a circular blank may be curled or thickened or the cylindrical edge of a potshaped predrawing may be collapsed.

    • A rolling process for producing a spur gear. The process comprises the following steps: (a) bringing gear teeth of a generally wheel-shaped toothed tool into press contact with a peripheral portion of a generally wheel-shaped gear material at which portion gear teeth are to be formed; and (b) bringing gear teeth of a generally wheel-shaped backup roller into press contact with the peripheral portion of the gear material in course of formation of the gear teeth under rolling so that the gear teeth of the backup roller are to be in mesh with the gear teeth formed at the peripheral portion of the gear material under the action of the toothed tool. The backup roller has an inclined section for forming a chamfered portion of each tooth of the spur gear to be produced. The inclined section is located at a position corresponding to the chamfered portion of the spur gear.

    • A toothed wheel is cold formed from a circular piece or plate of sheet metal by cold-forming an annular outer section of the sheet metal into a preform, while the sheet metal is held in a rotary holding unit and rotated about its preform axis. While the sheet metal is rotating, a thickening roller works against the sheet metal's an outer annular section to thicken the same and form a wheel having a generally uniform cross-sectional outer annular section and an integral central wall that extends radially inwardly from the outer annular section. The outer annular section is formed by a multi-stage cold rolling process, utilizing different thickening rollers. Then, while the preform is rotating, a curling roller works on the outer annular section to form an axially extending flange, forming a cylindrical or C-shaped wheel to form a final preform. Then, while the final preform is rotating, a tooth forming roller is meshed against the outer periphery of the flange. At the same time, a back-up roller engages the flange at a different location to further shape the flange.

All four of the disclosed die tooth embodiments are variations of a common design feature: Namely, at least one segment of the tooth profile for the first tooth of the start portion of the die is formed with a pressure angle substantially larger than the pressure angle of the final basic profile geometry desired for the teeth, and then the profiles of the successive die teeth for the start portion are formed so that the pressure angle of each successive die tooth progressively and gradually decreases in magnitude from the pressure angle of the first tooth until the pressure angle of the final die tooth of the start section is substantially the same as the pressure angle of the desired workpiece teeth.
