    • A spring insert for a waterbed mattress includes a plurality of spring bellows units arranged in upright relation within the mattress. Each bellows unit has a top wall and pleated sidewall which is collapsible from a normal expanded height to a shortened compressed height wherein the internal volume of the bellows unit is substantially reduced. Each bellows unit furthermore has a bleeder opening through one wall so that a compression load exerted on the bellows unit through the mattress top wall is resisted by both spring action and hydraulic action of the bellows units. The bellows units may be interconnected to form upper and lower sections arranged in stacked relation. Stacked pairs of upper and lower bellows units may be arranged in fluid communication to define joint hydraulic chambers.

    • In a box spring assembly having a frame, including a frame rail member with horizontally spaced generally upright side walls. The frame rail has a plurality of aligned horizontal slots through the upright side walls and arranged in aligned pairs. Wire spring modules having U-shaped mounting feet extending through the aligned slots are mounted on the rail. A mounting foot has a pair of spaced apart leg portions joined together by a connecting portion spring urging the leg portions apart. Each leg portion has a pair of spaced bearing sections for engaging the ends of pairs of slots in the side walls of the frame rail, and an outwardly convex retaining portion between the bearing sections for coacting with the side walls to retain the foot in the pair of slots in the frame rail.

    • The improved mattress innerspring unit is provided which includes a plurality of coil springs arranged in a plurality of substantially parallel rows, a plurality of cross helicals extending transversely of the rows of coil springs, lacing together adjacent springs along their terminal convolutions in both the upper and lower surfaces of the unit, at least one border wire extending about the perimeter of the unit and at least one cross helical cap mounted on the end revolutions of a cross helical which cap includes a means for restraining movement of the cross helical outward of the unit. The restraining means of the cross helical cap is positioned inward of the border wire and provides a positive abutment for the end revolution of the cross helical, preventing movement beyond the border wire. A cross helical cap is also provided which is adapted to be mounted on the end of a cross helical and restrain movement of the cross helical beyond a border wire of an innerspring unit.

    • A furniture assembly, such as a metal box spring assembly, including slats defining support members for a plurality of coil springs. An aperture is formed in the metal support slat with an upset portion disposed about the periphery of the aperture and out of the plane of the support member and the tail of the coiled spring is inserted into the aperture and thereafter the upset portion is flattened toward the plane of the support member to force the periphery of the aperture into gripping engagement with the tail of the coil spring to retain the coil spring to the support member. The upset portion has a groove therein for receiving a radially extending support portion of the coil spring for receiving and positioning the radially extending support portion of the coil spring thereby positioning the entire spring.
