    • A motor controller includes a power source VG for driving a motor 1, a power source VRG for regenerating energy generated in the motor 1, and a power converter for transferring energy from the power source VRG to the power source VG. Windings of the motor are connected, at their opposite ends, to the power source VG and collectors of transistors TR1 to TR3, respectively. Diodes D1 to D3 are connected to nodes of the windings and the transistors TR1-TR3 such that magnetic energy generated in the motor 1 is supplied to the power source VRG. This configuration enables the motor controller to have a reduced number of transistors for driving the windings, and the power sources to be effectively utilized. Further, the motor controller can use a discharge circuit of small power consumption type, which can reduce heat generated in the motor controller.

    • A system and method is provided for controlling a brushless DC motor (100), the motor being of the type having a plurality of coils (25, 26, 27) and a switching amplifier coil driving circuit (25A, 26A, 27A) including a plurality of transistors (21, 22, 29, 30, 33, 34). Current application to the plurality of transistors is controlled to obtain, near a commutation point of the motor, a simultaneous rise in current applied to a first of the transistors and a fall in current applied to a second of the transistors. Controlling application of current to the plurality of transistors involves, for each of the transistors, generating a PWM gate drive signal by selectively switching between a nominal PWM signal and a constant signal. The selective switching is in response to a synthesized state signal, the synthesized state signal being generated to alternate variably between the two states in accordance with a desired ramping of current to the first and second transistors. In one embodiment, the control system is employed for a motor used to rotate a reel of a helical scan tape drive.

    • A compressor control circuit adapted to a refrigerator comprises a compressor including a brushless DC motor, a power circuit for separating an AC power source from a DC power source to drive the brushless DC motor, a voltage adjustment switching circuit for selecting the voltage of a power source circuit responsive to the load condition, and a motor control circuit including a two phase control circuit for varying the operation speed of the brushless DC motor in response to the temperature of a freezing chamber, an operation control circuit for enabling the on-off operation of the brushless DC motor to be continued according to the on-off operation of a load sensor in the freezing chamber, and an over-load protecting circuit for stopping the brushless DC motor and cutting off the power source under the overload or binding condition for the compressor. The compressor control circuit adjusts the temperature of an evaporator by the continuous variable speed operation of the brushless DC motor, so that the continuous temperature control characteristics of the evaporator are superior, and the freezing and refrigerating chambers of a refrigerator are kept at a constant, accurate temperature without a temperature ripple.

In response to the occurrence of a power-off condition, motor control circuit (50) controls motor (22) in accordance with the contingent motor-governing deceleration signal to achieve orderly deceleration. Secondary power supply circuit (70) provides power to motor control circuit (50) during the power-off condition.
