    • A dual function motor/generator includes a rechargeable battery, a mode switching device, a dual function rotor/stator structure, at least two transmission devices and a clutch device for selecting one of the two transmission devices depending on whether a motor or generator mode is selected. When the dual function motor/generator is used as a motor, power is supplied from the rechargeable battery controlled by the mode switching device to a driven load through the rotor/stator structure and one of the transmission devices, and when used as a generator, the battery is recharged by applying an external force to the load such that the load drives the other transmission device to rotate the rotor in a direction opposite a direction of rotation of the rotor in the motor mode, and thereby induce an electric current in the rotor/stator structure to recharge the battery.

    • A coaxial starter motor assembly that includes a housing. An electrical motor is provided in the housing that has a rotatable armature shaft that is linked with a drive shaft. A pinion assembly is provided that is engageable at one end with the drive shaft and includes a pinion at the other end engageable with a flywheel of an engine. A solenoid assembly is provided for selectively energizing the electrical motor. The solenoid assembly is coaxial with the drive shaft. The solenoid assembly includes a plunger having a bore. The plunger is engageable with the pinion assembly to move the pinion assembly including the pinion into engagement with the flywheel. The plunger is also engageable with a moveable contact to move the moveable contact to electrically connect with a pair of fixed contacts. A return spring is provided that is positioned at least in part within the bore of the plunger of the solenoid assembly for moving the pinion assembly including the pinion away from engagement with the flywheel. The return spring is spaced from the pinion assembly. Energization of the solenoid assembly moves the plunger to move the pinion assembly to engage the pinion with the flywheel. Upon deenergization of the solenoid assembly, the plunger is capable of moving independently of the pinion assembly to thereby break the electrical connection between the moveable contact and the fixed contacts before the return spring moves the pinion assembly to move the pinion away from engagement with the flywheel.

    • A starter motor assembly is provided. A motor housing encloses an electrical motor having a rotatable armature shaft. A rotatable drive shaft is provided that is engageably linked with the armature shaft. A pinion assembly is also provided, which includes a pinion that is engageable with the drive shaft for turning a flywheel of an engine. A solenoid assembly is provided, which includes a plunger. The plunger, when the solenoid assembly is energized, is moved in an axial direction to close electrical contacts to start the electrical motor and to move the pinion into-engagement with the engine flywheel. Once the engine is cranked and the solenoid is deenergized, a return spring moves the pinion away from engagement with the engine flywheel. The return spring of the present invention moves the pinion without utilizing contact between the spring and the pinion (or any pinion shaft) to move the pinion away from engagement. Thus, the spring may be positioned around the pinion shaft without contacting the pinion shaft.

    • A miniaturized motor includes a DC motor, a worm, a pinion gear, a worm gear, at least one cluster gear, an output gear and an output shaft. The gears form a gear train extending from the DC motor to the output shaft. A boss stabilizes the pinion gear by extending downwardly from inside the cover. Acoustical chambers packed with grease suppress noise generated by the gear train. A PC board is also provided on the cover to energize the DC motor. The output shaft may drive either a product mover for beverage cans inside a vending machine or another type of electromechanical unit requiring the application of high torque in a small space. A cradle bearing inside a cover holds a hub of the worm and prevents the worm from bending, thus assuring a good mesh of the worm with the pinion gear. A nest encapsulates the worm, the pinion gear and the worm gear to ensure protection and structural integrity of the miniaturized motor within the small space.

The inventive method consists essentially of the following steps: moving the gear wheel into the defined end position (park position) independently of engagement with the output shaft and then connecting the output shaft to which the output lever was previously undetachably fixed to the gear wheel, with a press fit. Advantageous embodiments describe appropriate bearing possibilities for the gear wheel and suitable steps for facilitating the pressing-in process.
