    • Electrical devices such as motors and generators create heat as they operate. This can lead to lower performance and life. Therefore, it is important to provide cooling for such devices. This is particularly true in heavy duty applications such as earthmoving or other industries. Methods and apparatus are disclosed to provide cooling that involves the circulation of two fluids in defined pathways. Heat within a case or other enclosure for an electrical device is transferred to one fluid. Heat from the one fluid is subsequently transferred to the other fluid. In one example, this heat transfer may occur across fins for increased effectiveness. It is also preferred that the flow of fluid beclosed loop so that contaminants are not introduced into the electrical device. By providing the heat transfer out of the electrical device as described, cooling is enhanced that can lead to longer lived and better performing devices.

    • The invention relates to a motor part of a linear motor, i.e. the primary part or secondary part of an asynchronous or synchronous linear motor. According to the invention, it is proposed to configure a cooling coil (K), which has a meandering flat structure, from pipe sections (10) of a material with high heat conductivity, as well as plastic deflections (12, 13). The deflections are preferably configured as pre-fabricated molded plastic parts, and the motor element is preferably cast with the attached cooling coil. According to the invention, cooling coils can be configured from modules in accordance with the required dimensions, and problems caused by bending the metal parts are avoided.

    • Optimized winding cooling and slot fill of a concentrated winding electric motor provides a means to maximize a motor's winding cooling without decreasing its slot fill factor, thereby improving the motor's torque density and efficiency. The motor uses a stator with trapezoidal-shaped stator teeth separated by rectangular stator slots. Windings placed around each stator teeth partially fill the stator slots, leaving rectangular spaces between each group of windings. Cooling tubes are placed in these leftover spaces. The cooling tubes' rectangular geometry allows the tubes to contact every outer turn of the adjacent stator windings, providing efficient thermal conduction between the cooling tubes and windings. Because the cooling tubes are placed in a normally unused portion of the stator, they do not decrease the motor's slot fill factor. The motor's efficient cooling allows it to run at high current, thus improving the motor's torque density and efficiency.
