    • The hermetically sealed electrical feed-through device has a circular metal disk (11) with a conductive angular or bent isolated pin (13) hermetically sealed in an oval or elliptical through-going opening (O) whose center coincides with the center of the circular metal disk. The angular or bent isolated pin (13) is sealed in the oval or elliptical opening (O) by means of a glass-to-metal seal (17). An angular or bent ground pin (15) is connected to the rear side of the circular metal disk (11) adjacent to the opening (O) and extends approximately parallel to the isolated pin (13). Because the through-going opening (O) has an elliptical or oval cross-section section, different bridge wires of different lengths are connectable on the front side of the metal disk (11) between the front surface of the circular metal disk (11) and the angular or bent isolated pin (13). The isolated and ground pins both have circular transverse cross-sections.

    • A high pressure discharge lamp having a translucent sintered aluminum oxide discharge envelope is produced by a method that includes providing a ceramic end plug having an aperture for a current lead-in member in an end of the envelope, sintering the end plug to the envelope and passing the current lead-in member through the plug so as to extend into the envelope, forming a thin disc-shaped sealing member formed of magnesium oxide containing glass frit and having an aperture for the lead-in member on the outer surface of the plug, positioning a thin barrier member having an aperture for the lead-in member on and extending over the outer surface of the sealing member and heating the assembly so as to cause the sealing member to melt and form a glass bond between the lead-in member and the plug and the barrier member to melt and bond to the glass seal.

    • The lamp has a pinch seal which surrounds a mounting structure carrying l-in wires of the filament;the front face (7) terminating the lamp envelope end forms substantially a plane, and is arranged at right angle to the generated surface of the lamp envelope (1) with the transition of these two surfaces to one another being substantially in the shape of a circumferential edge,the length of the pinch seal (2) extending from the front face (7) on the axis of the lamp envelope is from 0.2 to 0.4 times the external diameter of the lamp envelope (1),and the width of the pinch seal is close to the external diameter of the lamp envelope. To form this shape, the lamp is introduced into a die, with the envelope softened and, during execution of the pinch operation, excess gas pressure is applied to the interior of the lamp envelope so that the lamp envelope will accurately follow the shape of the pinch jaws similar to a blow-molding operation. The excess gas can be introduced into the lamp envelope for example through an exhaust tube forming part of the mounting structure, which is later on used for exhaustion and filling of the lamp and then sealed off.
