    • For a trip odometer comprising a pinion carrier and a pinion spring mounted to the pinion carrier, the improvement provided includes, on the pinion carrier, a mating surface having a thickness, two protruding locators and an underside surface, wherein each locator has a retention ramp operatively associated with the pinion spring to retain the pinion spring in a secured position. Improvement on the pinion spring comprises (a) a mounting surface, (b) a leader ramp formed at a first end of the mounting surface, (c) a second end of the mounting surface, opposite from the first end, forming acute bends and finger bends, (d) a series of leaf springs extending out of the acute bends operatively associated with the transfer gears, (e) the finger bends being interposed between the leaf springs (f) arcuate extensions protruding from the finger bends and arcing towards the mounting surface, (g) retention springs formed from the arcuate extensions, (h) bends located at the end of the retention springs, bending away from the mounting surface to form spring ramps, and (i) two locating holes defined by the mounting surface, the locators protruding through the locating holes, whereby the improvements allow self-guided one step assembly of the pinion spring to the pinion carrier.

    • In an electromagnetic counter of the type including an electric coil responsive to a signal to be counted, a counter operated by the coil, a holding contact which is closed when the coil is energized and adapted to hold itself closed and any related circuit in the operating condition, and means for resetting the counter and opening the holding contact, the holding contact is comprised by a magnetic switch disposed to be operated by the coil and the reset means comprises a permanent magnet which is normally positioned with respect to the magnetic switch such that the magnetic flux generated by the permanent magnet is not sufficient to close the magnetic switch but sufficient to hold the magnetic switch in the closed state once it has been closed by the coil.

    • A subtracting timer is shown in which there are a plurality of coaxial wheels having digital indicia thereupon. The wheels have associated cardioid cams associated with them which may be set before a timing interval by externally accessible setting pushbuttons, to any desired rotary position relative to the wheels. At the beginning of a timing interval a solenoid moves an assembly which actuates a load switch and also includes clutch means for transmitting rotary power from an appropriate source to the digit wheels and also includes means for enabling ''''carries'''' to be effected between adjacent digit wheels. During the timing interval, the setting of any digit wheel may be changed by pressing an override button and simultaneously pressing appropriate ones of the setting buttons, this all being done while the originally actuated load switch remains unaffected. The original movement of the assembly causes a plurality of cam-following rollers to be moved into contact with respective cam surfaces on the wheels. Only when the rollers simultaneously engage corresponding recesses in the cam surface does their resultant movement unlatch the arm of a second switch which turns the power source off whereupon the timer reverts to its reset state.

    • An electromagnetic counter for digitally counting applied signal pulse numbers, including resetting mechanism for simultaneously resetting a series of digit wheels to their zero position. Actuating force for the resetting mechanism is applied to a rockable first lever, which has the same number of resetting arms as that of the digit wheels for rotating them to zero position and a lever arm for rotating a rotatable frame supporting a series of pinions engaged between each of the digit wheels into pinions'' disengaging position. There is provided between the lever arm of the first lever and the rotatable frame a second lever pivoted at its respective ends to them for transmitting the actuating force. The pivoting point of the first lever, respective pivoting points between the first and second levers and the second lever and rotatable pinion frame are substantially aligned on a straight line so as to make repulsing torque given to the pinions from the digit wheels to be small.
