    • A vacuum generating device and method include a member defining a passage, a first valve, a second valve, and a fluid communication conduit. The passage extends between a first end and a second end, and includes a constriction defining an orifice. The first valve connects the first end of the member and an ambient environment. The first valve is adjustable between first and second configurations. The first configuration permits generally unrestricted fluid flow between the orifice and the ambient environment. The second configuration substantially prevents fluid flow between the orifice and the ambient environment. The second valve has a first port and a second port. The first port is adapted for fluid communication with a pressure source at a first pressure level. The fluid communication conduit connects the second end of the member and the second port of the second valve. The fluid communication conduit includes a fluid communication tap at a second pressure level. The second pressure level is responsive to fluid flow through the orifice.

    • A compact, portable and NIST traceable pressure source dynamically generates very low pressures includes at least one adjustable valves in-line with a fluid, such as air, flowing through the valve. A differential pressure is created across a pressure control device downstream from the valve. The differential pressure varies depending on the volume of the gas flow and the amount of resistance to the gas flow. The pressure generating device utilizes a miniature pump to create a pressure, or, alternatively, a vacuum, that causes gas flow. The pressure generating device is compact and capable of providing a very low and stable differential pressure by using a dynamic flow that compensates for temperature changes and volume changes. The compact module may be configured as a plug-in module for existing handheld calibrators for operator ease of use.

    • A tool for testing pressure/vacuum engine control switches includes a first and second housing. The housings each include inner and outer passages. The housings are attached with the inner passages placed adjacent each other. When attached, the housings form a continuous longitudinal passage. A pressure chamber is attached to the first housing and includes a valve. The valve provides a passage to a testing chamber. The testing chamber includes a receptacle, pressure/vacuum gauge, and a plug. The first housing also includes a vent and a piston/rod arrangement which define a fluid chamber in the first housing. The rod extends from the first housing through the inner passages and partially into the second housing. A seal is provided around the portion of the rod which passes through inner passages. A return spring is provided around the portion of the rod which extends into the second housing. A lock-and-swivel joint is located at the end of the portion of the rod extending into the second housing. A threaded rod is attached to the lock-and-swivel joint and extends through the outer passage of the second housing. An adjusting knob is provided at the end of the threaded rod outside of the second housing. Preferably, the second housing also includes a mechanism for mounting a battery. The mechanism may include two (or more) mounting plates extending perpendicular to the second housing such that a battery may be inserted and retained therebetween. Wires may be attached to respective mounting plates and be provided with clips at the ends thereof. A light bulb may be provided on one wire.

    • A system for the operation of a number of commercial washing machines and automatically feeding liquid chemicals to the washing machines. The system has chemical reservoir pods with a pressure sensor and an output valve on each. The chemical pods are supplied with liquid chemical by refill pumps. The quantity of chemical in a chemical pod, and the quantity of chemical dispensed from each chemical pod is calculated from information received by a controller from the pressure sensor to determine when to open and close the valve. A further pressure sensor is provided in the supply pipe to each washing machine to verify and measure flow quantity of water and chemical to the machine.

    • A pressure sensor for measuring a pressure p contains a membrane with a front and a rear clamped into a body. The pressure p can be applied to the rear of the membrane. The front of the membrane is actively linked to a piston. In addition, a force transmitter is present with which a predetermined force can be applied to the piston. For the purpose of re-calibration, the membrane of the pressure sensor can be deformed by the force transmitter under precisely defined conditions and the output signal re-calibrated. A positioner can also be foreseen instead of the force transmitter.

    • A method of calibrating an integrated pressure management apparatus having a chamber with an interior volume varying in response to fluid pressure in the chamber. A diaphragm partially defining the chamber is displaceable between first and second configurations in response to fluid pressure variations around a certain pressure level. A resilient element applies a force biasing the diaphragm a first configuration and a switch is actuated by the diaphragm in the second configuration. The method includes connecting the chamber to a pressure source at a known pressure level, and adjusting resilient element such that the switch is actuated at the known pressure level.
