    • An engine starting fuel enriching system provides a valve that is located downstream of an air feed conduit that is connected in fluid communication with a first fuel conduit. The fuel conduit is connected between a fuel reservoir and the valve. When the valve is in a closed position, both fuel and air are inhibited from flowing in a direction from the fuel reservoir and the air feed conduit toward the air intake manifold of the engine. A heater circuit is used to activate a valve actuator as a function of the temperature of the engine.

    • A method and system for preventing excessive fuel supply during engine startup, including supplying supplementary fuel during cranking of a cold engine and preventing supply of the supplementary fuel if the engine fails to start running. A solenoid valve in a supplementary fuel supply passage permits the supply of supplementary fuel. A switching device controls the solenoid valve and is grounded by a thermistor that is placed adjacent to a heater element. During cranking, electric current is supplied to the heater element, which progressively increases in temperature to cause the electric resistance of the adjacent thermistor to decrease over a predetermined time, thereby causing the transistor to turn off and deactivate the solenoid valve. Thus, if the engine fails to start within the predetermined time, the supplementary fuel supply is cut off by the solenoid valve, thereby reducing the possibility of excessive fuel enrichment and engine flooding.

    • An auto-enrichener for an engine, including an enriching conduit for carrying fuel and air to an engine, and a valve disposed in the conduit. The valve is adjustable between at least an open configuration and a closed configuration. In the open configuration passage of fuel and air through the conduit is enabled, and in the closed configuration passage of fuel and air through the conduit is not enabled. The auto-enrichener also includes a thermal expansion element in communication with the valve. The thermal expansion element expands with increasing temperature and contracts with decreasing temperature to activate the valve. The auto-enrichener also includes a heater that hears the thermal expansion element when the engine is operated.

    • An engine choke actuation system controls both the opening degree of the choke and throttle valves of a plurality of charge formers during all phases of engine warmup. The engine choke actuation system includes a first device which acts to close the choke valve at the time of engine starting. A second device restricts a degree of closure of the choke valve by the first device depending upon the temperature of the engine at the time of engine starting. The second device also controls the opening degree of the choke valves after engine starting, increasing the opening degree of the choke valve with increasing engine temperature. In addition, the second device controls the fast idle angle of the throttle valves during engine warmup, decreasing the fast idle angle of the throttle valves as the engine temperature increases.

    • A carburetor is provided with an automatic starting device, more especially for motor car engines, comprising a butterfly valve controlled by the driver and -for starting up and cold running of the engine- an automatic starting device. This device comprises a start air valve (choke) and a wax capsule which controls the position of the air valve and the minimum opening position of the butterfly valve. The wax capsule is provided with a heating resistor and a temperature sensor. The starting device further comprises a computer having inputs connected to the temperature sensor and to sensors supplyng signals representative of the operating conditions of the engine. It controls the electric power applied to the heating resistor. The computer imposes on the butterfly valve and on the air valve a degree of opening which depends, on the one hand, on the temperature sensitive element during start up of the engine and, on the other hand, on the number of revolutions effected by this latter from start up.
