    • The invention relates to an internal-combustion engine having a cylinder block and crankcase and a case structure which preferably has two cylinders or cylinder bank rows (2, 3) arranged in a V-shape with respect to one another, an endless drive extending on the face of the cylinders or cylinder bank rows, which drive comprises a timing chain, for connecting a crankshaft with camshafts (9 to 12) arranged in the cylinder heads, the timing drive chain (14) being covered by a timing drive cover (18). It is suggested that the timing drive cover (18) or the case structure situated opposite the timing drive cover has a ribbing (32, 34, 36) by way of which a targeted separation and/or return takes place of the oil carried along by the timing chain (14) in the direction of the cylinder heads (7, 8). As a result, among others, the venting of the crankcase is not hindered which takes place by way of the timing chain case.

    • To provide a rocker arm of a design effective to avoid occurrence of a loosening of the adjustment screw to ensure a proper operation of the internal combustion engine including the control of the opening of the valve body on the engine cylinder head, the rocker arm 1 is of a type capable of being rockingly driven by a cam 2 for selectively opening and closing a valve of an internal combustion engine. The rocker arm 1 includes an arm body 4 prepared from a steel plate by means of a press work to have a generally inverted U-shaped section. The arm body 4 has one end formed with an internally threaded hole 12 into which an adjustment screw 7 is threaded. This adjustment screw has one end defining a pivot piece 7b or a valve drive piece 7Ab. Two nuts 13 and 14 are threadingly mounted in overlapping relation to each other on one end portion of the adjustment screw 7 protruding outwardly from the arm body. Instead of the use of the two nuts 13 and 14, a flanged nut may be employed or a single nut 13 in combination with a washer 17 may be employed.

    • The invention relates to a valve rotator having an annular body in which are circumferentially provided several ball pockets having inclined ball races and in which a ball and a tangential spring are located in each case. In a rest position, the tangential springs press the balls at an upper point of the inclined ball races. An annular cover is also provided, which is rotatable and axially displaceable relative to the body. There is also an axial spring device between the body and the cover, the axial spring device pressing them apart axially in the rest position and if a valve spring tension is applied the body and the cover are pressed axially against one another and the balls roll along the ball races to a lower point. There is a clearly defined rotation between the body and the cover. A drastic reduction of wear is brought about in that the axial spring device is spaced from the balls and on one axial side of the axial spring device is provided a pivot bearing. The balls are in contact with the cover.

    • A valvetrain with a single camshaft is disclosed. The valvetrain has one or more intake valves, and one or more exhaust valves per cylinder of an engine block. The valvetrain comprises a cylinder head. The valve head of each intake valve is removably seated within a corresponding intake valve seat of the cylinder head, and the stem of each intake valve is movably positioned within the cylinder head. The valve head of each exhaust valve is removably seated within a corresponding exhaust valve seat of the cylinder head, and the stem of each exhaust valve is movably positioned with the cylinder head. For each cylinder, an intake crosshead and an exhaust crosshead are pivotally mounted upon the cylinder head. Each intake crosshead is operatively mounted upon the stem top of a corresponding intake valve. Each exhaust crosshead is operatively mounted upon the stem top of a corresponding exhaust valve. For each cylinder, an intake rocker arm and an exhaust rocker arm are pivotally coupled to the cylinder head. Each intake rocker arm operatively abuts a corresponding intake crosshead. Each exhaust rocker arm operatively abuts a corresponding exhaust crosshead. The single camshaft is rotatably mounted to the cylinder head, and operatively abuts the rocker arms. As the camshaft cyclically rotates, the rockers arm and the crossheads undulatedly pivot about the cylinder head causing a undulated seating and unseating of the intake valve(s) and the exhaust valve(s) within the respective intake valve seat(s) and exhaust valve seat(s).

Also provided is a control shaft variably controlling the center of the oscillating motion of the rocker arm.
