    • An anti-abduction device for preventing or discouraging the unlawful abduction of a child or person. The anti-abduction device comprises a pair of bracelets with each bracelet being adapted to fit around the arm of a person. More particularly, the bracelets include an interconnecting structure that enables the bracelets to be interconnected. In use the bracelets are disposed about the arms of a child or person. In an abduction threat the child or person places his or her arms around an object. Because the bracelets assume an interconnected mode after the arms have been extended around the object, it follows that the child or person is effectively tied to the object and this will serve to frustrate the abduction attempt.

    • Keyless restraints similar to handcuffs and leg shackles, which restraints employ conventional ratchet action bundling ties. The restraints include a securing block which has two receptacle each capable of receiving the pawl block of one bundling tie. After the pawl block of each bundling tie is placed in its respective receptacle, the toothed strap of each bundling tie is inserted through aligned slots formed in opposing sides of its associated receptacle. The toothed strap engages the pawl block by conventional ratchet action. The bundling ties are then entrapped within the securing block, and can be drawn around the wrists of a detainee or any other object being secured. Each receptacle has a projection which releasably retains the pawl block of the bundling tie in place within the receptacle. Optionally, the receptacles are connected by a flexible tether long enough to permit a detainee to walk, but too short to permit running.

    • A set of handcuffs having an improved locking mechanism. The critical element of the locking mechanism is the utilization of a locking gear set that replaces the conventional pawl. The teeth in the locking arm are matched to the locking gear set and are always in constant and full contact with the locking gear set. This invention also uses a cam/cylinder locking device that controls the movement of the locking gear set. In the normal cam position the locking gear set will only turn in one direction, thus enabling the locking arm to close. In the second cam position the locking gear set will not turn in either direction. The cam can be rotated, through the use of a cylindrical key, in either directions. Rotation in one direction will select one of two locking positions. Rotation of the cylindrical key in the opposite direction will free locking gear set to rotate in the opposite direction thus disengaging the locking arm.

    • A double-locking mechanism for handcuffs, which include a pawl-and-ratchet mechanism wherein the ratchet pawl is spring biased to couple with a pivotal ratchet jaw arm within in a shackle casing and a bolt is provided for engaging the pawl to prevent the coupled jaw from pivoting in either direction in order to double lock the mechanism. A pivot slide mechanism is provided whereby either the pawl or the bolt is not only permitted to pivot about an axis within the casing, but is also permitted to have limited displacement in a direction transverse to its pivot axis which thereby causes the pawl to engage a stop within the casing to double lock the pawl from pivoting in either direction and also causes the bolt under bias to displace from a first bolt position to a second bolt position and thereby engage and retain the pawl in the double lock position against the stop in order to ensure that the mechanism will remain double locked until opened with a key. This design permits double locking of the mechanism merely by pulling either the jaw arm or shackle chain away from the shackle casing to provide quick double locking without the required use of an additional key or pin.

    • A key operated restraining device is provided to create a securing loop of adjustable dimension. The device includes a locking head portion, an elongated smooth surfaced strap insertable into the locking head portion to form a securing loop of adjustable dimension, a support block disposed in the interior of the head portion, and a pawl member. Both the support block and the pawl member terminate in a spaced relation to an interior wall surface of the head portion and form a slideway for the strap operation. The pawl member is connected to the locking head by a resilient hinge structure with a spike inserted into or attached to the pawl biasing the pawl member into a locking position wherein the locking structure is operative to lockably engage a smooth strap and a release position wherein the locking structure is disengaged from the strap.

    • A handcuff adapted to guide an inserted foreign metal piece upwardly to a blocking portion, and to be quickly put on a wrist of a criminal person is disclosed. The most proximal teeth of the teeth include slanting surfaces. When the movable arm is pulled out of the fixed arms, the innermost teeth of the teeth pass over the most proximal teeth of the movable arm, thereby maintaining engagement between the innermost teeth of the pawl pieces and the most proximal teeth of the movable arm.

    • A handcuff includes cheek and jaw members pivotally secured and movable between open and closed positions. Teeth are formed on the jaw member, and a locking mechanism is carried by the cheek member. The locking mechanism includes one or more primary gears having a plurality of teeth that engage the teeth of the jaw member in the closed position and rotate as the cheek and jaw members pivot. A secondary gear may be secured to and rotatable with the primary gear. A latch may pivot to releasably engage the secondary gear, to prevent the secondary and primary gears from rotating, and to prevent the cheek and jaw members from moving to the open position. The locking mechanism may include a pair of spaced-apart primary gears with the latch disposed therebetween. The jaw member and gear may be disposed in a planar layer, and the latch may be disposed outside the planar layer defined by the jaw member and gear.
