    • A fastening device and method is disclosed for use in fixedly attaching a single-ply roof membrane to a roof structure of a building. The device comprises an elongated member formed with spaced-apart, upwardly extending arms forming an elongated channel therebetween. The elongated member is positioned on the roof surface and is fixedly attached to the roof prior to installation of the single-ply membrane. The elongated member may also be used to rigidly fix the roof insulation to the roof decking. A separate elongated plate is inserted into the elongated channel after the single-ply membrane is positioned over the roof surface. The single-ply membrane is positioned over the spaced-apart upwardly extending arms and lies within the elongated channel formed between the arms. The separate elongated plate is then positioned within the elongated channel over the single-ply membrane and the upwardly extending arms are positioned downwardly towards each other to butt each other or overlap each other, according to the embodiment used to tightly hold the single-ply membrane onto the fastening device. The method of fixedly attaching a single-ply roof membrane to an existing roof structure using the novel construction herein is also disclosed. The separate elongated plate may be formed in other configurations such as spaced-apart rods spring-loaded to provide a tight engagement with the roof membrane.

    • A hay bale cover for use with large cylindrical hay bales stored outdoors for protecting such bales from inclement weather such as rain, snow, hail and the like. The cover is in the form of an arcuate panel of flexible resilient material having a plurality of longitudinally extending, parallel ribs formed therein which extend from end to end of the panel to provide longitudinal rigidity but enabling the side edges of the panel to be flexed to vary the radius of curvature of the panel. The end edges of the panel each have an inwardly extending flange with radial corrugations therein. This enables the cover to be positioned on top of a cylindrical hay bale which is positioned horizontally on the ground surface or the like and forced downwardly thereon so that the side edges are capable of flexing outwardly and the inherent spring-like action will then cause the cover to snugly fit and actually cling to the hay bale, thereby eliminating the necessity of using tie-downs.

In order to permit an elastic deformation of the support arches under the influence of wind or snow loads and to enable the pretensioned support arches to be erected by pivoting about the chord of the arc, the arch elements (1) are joined together articulately at their butt ends, while the axes of articulation defined by the configuration of the butt ends extend perpendicularly to the arch plane. When a plurality of bracing wires (7), which are spaced apart approximately perpendicularly to the arch plane, extend in the arch elements or are passed along the latter, the rigidity against bending out of the arch plane can be adjusted separately on each side. The invention is applicable predominately to large tent structures, e.g., festival or sports halls or storage sheds.

    • A collapsible, tubular shelter adjustable between a stretched or extended form in which it can accommodate a sleeping hiker on level ground and a compressed or contracted form in which it can be easily carried on the hiker''s back. The shelter is formed from a tubular cover of lightweight, weatherproof nylon tenting reinforced by axially spaced hoops of flat spring steel strip which serve as ribs for holding the shelter in its tubular shape. The cover is permanently enclosed at one end and has zippered opening flaps at the other end to permit entry to and exit from the shelter. The shelter is stretched apart axially for use and is tied to a ground-anchored peg at each end by means of a line affixed to the top of the nearest hoop so that the two lines exert stretching force on the cover to hold it in its tubular shape. The lines also pull downwardly on the shelter to flatten it somewhat so that it can more readily accommodate a sleeping bag, the hoops being sufficiently resilient to permit this. The pitched shelter can be easily converted to its compressed form for carrying by disconnecting the lines from the anchored pegs and pushing the hoops together to collapse the cover, in accordion-like fashion, into a relatively flat, lightweight bundle.

    • A tentage structure wherein an open tent pavilion is convertible by the addition of a base unit to form a fully enclosed tent. The tent pavilion has spaced, opposed end walls interconnecting spaced, central and side ridges of a top and each extending downwardly therefrom to an anchor point; and spaced, opposed side walls of generally triangular configuration having their bases connected to the top side ridges and respectively extending downwardly to an anchor point. The base unit has a floor and triangular walls with doors and windows formed therethrough. Fanned upright poles and ridge poles provide framing for the pavilion, and means are provided to secure each of the walls of the base unit between an end wall and a side wall of the pavilion.

    • A convertible backpack and cot apparatus includes an extensible unitary frame which in its contracted condition is of a convenient size to carry on the back of a user and in its extended condition forms the peripheral framework of a cot and includes legs for retaining the peripheral framework elevated from the ground. The frame is composed of telescoping side and end portions so that the frame can be extended both in a lateral and longitudinal direction. Each end portion carries a supporting leg that is rotatable between fixed positions so that the leg can also serve as a support for a bedroll or the like or as an attachment bar for shoulder straps when the apparatus is used as a backpack. A center leg interconnects the side portions of the frame and is extensible laterally of the apparatus to provide an intermediate support when the apparatus is used as a cot. The frame is adapted to carry a conventional knapsack, and a cot sheet is connected along its periphery to the frame so as to be stretched taught when the frame is extended.
