摘要： Apparatuses, methods, and computer program products for quilting webs without compressing the webs. A quilting machine includes a needle bar to which needles are attached, needle thread passing through each needle, a looper shaft to which loopers are attached, a looper corresponding to each needle and from which looper thread is provided to form stitches, and a retainer bar to which spreaders are attached to facilitate stitching. A drive pulley powered by a first servo motor rotates cranks to move the needles through a cycle and rotates a belt which rotates an indexer pulley. Rotation of the indexer pulley oscillates the looper shaft and reciprocates the retainer bar. Another drive pulley powered by a second servo motor operates to move an input web through the machine between chain stiches.

A link mechanism is provided to drive the spreader, said link mechanism being designed as a six-bar linkage mechanism with a four-bar linkage and a secondary two-link group. The basic linkage and the two-link group are arranged in such a manner that two links are guided during a movement of the spreader in an extreme position in which it does not spread the looper thread. Thus a spreader movement is produced which is particularly adapted to the sewing process.

摘要： A looper operating device for sewing machines in which the looper is provided with forward movement and the machine's needle possesses work feeding movement which is synchronized and caused to perform its intended function simultaneously with the machine's feed dog. The device includes a lever member having an upper fulcrum to which actuating linkage for the looper are connected. The opposite end of the lever member includes a lower fulcrum 25 connected to a lever element mounted on a shaft that is operatively connected to and simultaneously actuates both the feed dog and needle. This lever element is stationary when the stitch length is zero or is oscillating with an amplitude proportional to the stitch length. The lever member includes an intermediate fulcrum 27 connected to an oscillating member of constant amplitude which is equivalent to the oscillation of the looper whereby for a zero stitch length, the start of the arc defined by the tip of the looper is fixed, and when increasing the stitch length, the start of the arc is proportionally moved from the vertical that passes through the lower dead point of the needle and occurs in a reverse manner when the stitch length is reduced.

摘要： A horizontal axis loop taker is actuated by a loop taker shaft supported in an eccentric opening in a rotatable bearing located immediately adjacent the loop taker. In a first position of the rotatable bearing, a sewing needle may extend through an orifice in a throat plate to cooperate with the loop taker in the formation of stitches. In a second position of the rotatable bearing achieved by rotating the bearing in a direction to locate the eccentric opening, and thereby the loop taker, further from the throat plate, the sewing needle will not cooperate with the loop taker. The increased clearance thus provided between the loop taker and throat plate will more readily accommodate thread severing devices.

A sewing needle of the assembly can be driven up and down in a needle stitching direction perpendicular to a material to be sewn and is designed to guide a needle thread. A looper of the assembly is designed to guide a looper thread and for oscillating movement in an oscillating movement plane. The latter is spanned by the needle stitching direction and by a sewing direction along the double chain stitch seam. During an entire double chain stitch a path of movement of the looper lies completely in the oscillating movement plane. This results in a stitch-forming tool assembly in which in particular a looper drive is simplified.

摘要： A looper drive assembly for a buttonhole sewing machine includes a long arm which is driven by a double cam, followers and an oscillating plate at one end and the arm generally reciprocates longitudinally. V-shaped plates are pivoted at a second end of the arm. Ends of the V-shaped plates are connected to rocking links which carry the looper needles. The links are pivoted on shafts and support the V-shaped plates and the second end of the arm. As the arm reciprocates, the V-shaped plates swing, pull and push lower ends of the link and oscillate the links around shafts for alternating engagement of the looping needles with thread carried through a fabric by a main needle.
