摘要： This invention relates to improved adhesion compositions and textile materials and articles treated therewith. The improved adhesion composition comprises a non-crosslinked resorcinol-formaldehyde and/or resorcinol-furfural condensate (or a phenol-formaldehyde condensate that is soluble in water), a rubber latex, and an aldehyde component such as 2-furfuraldehyde. The composition may be applied to textile substrates and used for improving the adhesion between the treated textile substrates and rubber materials. End-use articles that contain the treated textile-rubber composite include, without limitation, automobile tires, belts, and hoses as well as printing blankets.

The method for making a phenol/formaldehyde/furfural-based resin can include combining a phenol/formaldehyde-based resin with furfural to produce a phenol/formaldehyde/furfural-based resin. The phenol/formaldehyde/furfural-based resin can have a viscosity of about 1 cP to about 1,000 cP at a temperature of about 25° C.

摘要： A process for preparing a water soluble phenol-formaldehyde resole resin having improved storage stability employs a calcium compound to catalyze the condensation reaction which occurs under basic conditions. Sulfamic acid is used to neutralize the resole solution, yielding a soluble calcium salt which will not settle out of the solution or clog transfer lines or spray nozzles as may a calcium salt precipitated during the neutralization. Glass fiber insulation produced using a binder prepared with the aqueous resole solution shows enhanced thickness recovery and lower odor potential.

摘要： The moldable composition disclosed herein comprises co-reacted mixtures of powder or otherwise blendable form of 20-80% by weight of a phenolic-furfuraldehyde Novolac resin and of 20-80% by weight of a phenolic-aldehyde resol resin in water, either in solution or suspension, the percentages being based on the combined weight of the Novolac and resol resins, and the aldehyde in said Novolac resin comprising at least 50 molar percent, preferably substantially 100 percent, furfuraldehyde. The composition contains an amine such as hexamethylenetetramine ("hexa") in an amount equivalent to 1-15%, preferably 2-10% of hexamethylenetetramine based on the total amount of phenolic component. The composition is made by adding the preformed phenol-furfuraldehyde Novolac to the resol resin prior to dehydration of the resol resin to produce a grafted polymerization product of improved properties. This composition is particularly useful in admixture with a carbonaceous filler, preferably graphite in a proportion as high as 76% by weight based on the total composition. Generally in such admixtures the graphite may comprise 30-76%, advantageously 35-65% and preferably 40-60% of the molding composition. The vitreous carbon is improved in electrical properties and in the capability of being suitably molded, carbonized and graphitized into large shapes, particularly thin places which are much more stress-free and crack or pore-free than otherwise produced.
