    • Process for the preparation of an organopolysiloxane resin, which comprisesin a first stage reacting at least one silane of the formulaR.sub.a Si(OR.sup.1).sub.4-a (I)in which a has a value of 0, 1, 2 or 3, R and R.sup.1 are monovalent organic radicals which may be the same or different and/or a partial hydrolyzate thereof, with the proviso that at least one silane of formula (I), where a is 0 or 1 and/or a partial hydrolyzate thereof is employed, and optionally an organo(poly)siloxane with water in the presence of a poly-protic acid and optionally other substances, subsequently partly neutralizing the acid by addition of a base and then distilling off at least some of the compound R.sup.1 OH formed,in a second stage reacting the homogeneous reaction mass resulting from the first stage in the presence of a base and a water-insoluble organic solvent and distilling off the water and the compound R.sup.1 OH,in a third stage, bringing the homogeneous reaction mass resulting from the second stage to a pH of between 6 and 8 by buffering with a poly-protic acid and/or salts thereof, distilling off the water and any compound R.sup.1 OH still present and filtering off the salt which has precipitated, andoptionally, in a fourth stage separating the homogeneous reaction mass resulting from the third stage from the water-insoluble organic solvent.

    • An improved process is provided for preparing a linear diorganopolysiloxane fluid having terminal hydroxy groups, which is substantially free of cyclic polysiloxanes. In the process, a linear diorganopolysiloxane fluid containing lower boiling cyclic polysiloxanes is continuously fed with steam into an evacuated, tortuous, confined passageway to form a turbulent mixture of the silicone fluid and steam in the passageway, the mixture is passed through the passageway at elevated temperatures and moderate vacuum to form a vaporized mixture comprising steam and cyclic polysiloxanes which have been freed from the linear diorganopolysiloxane fluid, the vaporized mixture of steam and cyclics and the linear diorganopolysiloxane substantially free of cyclics are removed from the passageway, and the vaporized mixture of steam and cyclics is separated from the cyclic-free diorganopolysiloxane fluid.

    • A process for preparing diorganopolysiloxanes having terminal Si-bonded hydroxyl groups which comprises reacting an organosilicon compound selected from a cyclic diorganopolysiloxane, a diorganodichlorosilane hydrolysis product and mixtures thereof with from 0.1 to 3 percent by weight of a diorganodichlorosilane, based on the weight of the organosilicon compound, i.e., the cyclic diorganopolysiloxane and/or diorganodichlorosilane hydrolysis product employed, in the presence of from 1 to 50 ppm by weight of phosphonitrile chloride, based on the total weight of the organosilicon compound and diorganodichlorosilane employed, to form diorganopolysiloxanes containing an Si-bonded chlorine atom in each of the terminal units, then treating the reaction mixture with water or an aqueous solution, separating off the aqueous phase from the diorganopolysiloxanes containing an Si-bonded hydroxyl group in each of the terminal units and thereafter removing the low boiling constituents by distillation.
