    • A blower and valve apparatus for a pneumatic tube system is enclosed in a divided housing (10). A conventional blower fan (36) operates to create pressure in a pressure area P and suction in a suction area S of the housing. Area P has two air passage outlets; a first pressure outlet (38) to atmosphere and a second pressure outlet (40) to a neutral area C. Area S likewise has two air passage outlets; a first suction outlet (44) to atmosphere and a second suction outlet 42 to neutral area C. Area C is connected through a coupling (23) to the end of a pneumatic tube. A first rotatable flapper vane (50) is mounted in area P. At one extreme of its arcuate movement, the rotatable flapper vane closes the first pressure outlet to atmosphere and at the other extreme closes the second pressure outlet to area C. A second rotatable flapper vane (54) is mounted in area S. At one extreme of its arcuate movement the second flapper vane (54) closes the first suction outlet to atmosphere and at the other extreme closes the second suction outlet to area C. The rotatable flapper vanes are rotated together by a control linkage (63). The control linkage is arranged so that in a first position the vane in area S closes the outlet to atmosphere and opens the outlet to area C while the vane in area P closes the outlet to area C (40) leaving the outlet to atmosphere in area P open.

    • An article passing rotary seal for a fluid pressurized pipeline, comprises a casing having a cylindrical cavity with a driven rotor rotatably mounted in the cylindrical cavity. The casing has a tangential inlet and tangential outlet to the cylindrical cavity and the rotor has radial arms in sliding contact with the curved surface of the cavity. Articles, e.g. spheres or cylinders of sulphur or coal are passed, by an article feed, one at a time into positions between the rotor blades and carried by them to the outlet, a pump sucks fluid, e.g. water from near the casing inlet and delivers it to near the casing outlet to assist articles entering and leaving the casing. The rotor has an equal number of radial arms sealing each side of the casing between the inlet and outlet to be pressure balanced.

    • Booster pump devices for maintaining air flow through a conduit system for sweeping vehicles along the path defined by the conduit operate in full flow fashion such as tends to create reverse flow of air in the conduit within those sections between the inlet and outlet connections of the pump with the conduit. An overhead suspended air control plate is provided for each section movable incident to vehicle approach from a closed position blocking the section to an upwardly swung open position allowing the vehicle to pass beneath it. The plate is balanced by forces acting upon it to stabilize in the open position until the vehicle passes beyond it whereupon the plate automatically returns to closed position.

    • An improved valve for separating and sealing adjacent pneumatic tube sections of a pneumatic tube delivery system. The valve includes a pair of flap seals positioned on opposite sides of the travel path of a carrier through the valve. Each flap seal is spring biased closed, and has a shock absorbing element positioned behind it such that when the flap seal is kicked open by a carrier, the spring bias and the shock absorber will absorb the momentum of the kicked open flap seal. An air inlet section in the valve is designed to minimize the intake of rain and snow and further to minimize the coasting distance experienced by a carrier traveling through the valve.
