    • The bicycle drive mechanism is intended to emulate the behavior of contemporary multiple sprocket bicycle drive mechanisms while comprising far fewer components. In operation force is transmitted to a first drive sprocket which has the capability to absorb much of the inertial load. A second sprocket on the rear wheel of the bicycle is connected by a chain to the first drive sprocket in the usual fashion. Energy stored in the drive sprocket is gradually released as momentum is increased, thereby easing muscle strain upon the rider.

    • A system for providing a hybrid vehicle with a practical source of auxiliary power. The system includes two electric motor/generators connected to each other in such a fashion so that when one electric motor/generator functions as a motor, the other becomes a generator with their roles being reversed depending on whether the system is in an auxiliary power mode or energy storage mode. Connected to one motor/generator is the vehicle drive train. Connected to the other motor/generator is a pressure energy storage system, which in the energy storage mode converts the force of rotation into pressurized gas for storage in an energy system and delivered in the form of electric current by the one motor/generator, and in the energy delivery mode converts the stored energy of the energy storage system into electric current for delivery to the one motor/generator which is part of the vehicle drive train to provide auxiliary power for practical hybrid vehicles.

    • An energy management system operable in three modes of operation to either drive or retard the drive shaft (110) of a vehicle, or in a neutral mode, to have no driving or retarding influence on the drive shaft. The system includes energy accumulating means (100, 101) which is operable to store and release energy through receipt and release of fluid, pumping means (104) in fluid communication with the energy communication means (100, 101), a reservoir (107) of fluid in communication with the pumping means (104), and coupling means for coupling the pumping means (110) to the drive shaft (110). Whereby in the retarding mode of the system, the drive shaft (110) drives the pumping means (104) to pump fluid to the energy accumulating means (100, 101), and whereby in the driving mode of the system, the energy accumulating means (100, 101) releases fluid to drive the pumping means (104) which drives the drive shaft (110). Whereby in the neutral mode of the system, the pumping means (104) is inoperative to exert any driving or retarding influence on the drive shaft (110). A retarding system is also provided, as is a terrain logging facility for logging the terrain of a route over which a vehicle travels.

    • Energy storing bicycle comprises: a fluid reservoir accommodating a fluid having a predetermined viscosity compressible for storing pressure energy, to which at least one supply pipe and at least one return pipe are connected; at least one pressure pump whose inlet being connected to the supply pipe, after being compressed, the fluid in the pump is pressurized to a certain pressure and deliver the high pressure fluid out of the exit of the pump; pressure reserving cylinders with the same units as that of the pressure pumps each with an inlet connected to the pressure pipe; the cylinder being able to reserve pressurized fluid with an exit connected to a transmission pipe and having a gate valve so as to control the high pressure fluid to be able to continuously output therefrom for a long time; fluid turbines with the same units as that of the pressure reserving cylinders each with an inlet connected to the transmission pipe, and having a turbine rotor driven by highly pressurized fluid, an exit thereof being connected to the return pipe for the fluid reservoir; and a bicycle frame to mount the above described mechanisms thereon, at least one hub of the bicycle wheel is conjoined to the shaft of the turbine rotor.
