    • An assembly (10) for location around a wheel rim (32) comprises an annular support band (12) being formed of a relatively inextensible material. The support band (12) is split at at least one circumferential location to define a pair of opposed ends (16, 18). Adjustment means (24, 26, 28) are operably connected to said opposed ends (16, 18) for enabling adjustment of the diameter of the support band (12), and spacing means (14) depend from the radially inner face (34) of the support band (12). The spacing means (14) is formed from a relatively non-compressible material and, in use, is seated upon the wheel rim (32) to maintain the support band (12) in a spaced apart relationship with the wheel rim (32). The assembly may be adapted for use as a runflat assembly or as a beadlock assembly.

    • An elastic wheel includes a disk (1) secured to an axle hub, a rim (12) for mounting a tire, and an elastic member (10) arranged between the inner peripheral surface of the rim (12) and the outer peripheral surface of the disk (1). The elastic wheel is separable either between an outer peripheral surface portion (2) and a radial disk portion (3) of the disk (1), or between the inner peripheral surface of the rim (12) and the elastic member (10), or at both locations. This construction ensures long-lasting passenger comfort, anti-vibration performance and noise-suppression performance of the elastic wheel and allows optimization of these characteristics depending on applications of the wheel even during its use. The elastic wheel facilitates rim assembly as well as core mounting. Also, in cases where rubber is used to serve as the elastic member in the elastic wheel, vulcanization can be carried out without using an integrated rim unit, thereby making it possible to reduce the size of vulcanization apparatus.

Other aspects include methods for mounting and removing tires from a vehicle using such a device. The devices and methods may be used to service any type and size of vehicle, but are particularly applicable to servicing large vehicles, such as trucks, having large tires.

    • The present invention provides an improved wheel and tire for simulating the appearance of a larger-diameter wheel mounted within a low-profile tire. The wheel has an inboard side and an outboard side. The outboard side includes a wide outer flange which extends around the outer circumference of the wheel. The outer flange is preferably integral with the outboard face of the wheel and covers a substantial portion of the outboard wall of the tire within which the wheel is mounted. A design, preferably comprised of, for example, a plurality of protrusions, indentations, and slits, extends across at least a portion of the outboard face of the wheel, including the outboard face of the extended outer flange. The improved tire of the present invention is intended to be mounted on the improved wheel of the present invention with an extended outer flange. The tire comprises an outboard tire wall, an inboard tire wall, and a tread therebetween. The outboard tire wall preferably includes a laterally extending wheel protector, a ledge, and a flange seat. The flange seat is preferably contoured to match the inner face of the outer flange of the wheel and is preferably more rigid than the remainder of the tire to prevent the tire from deflecting into the outer flange of the wheel under the load of a vehicle.

    • A vehicle wheel includes a wheel rim for mounting a tire thereon and a wheel disc attached to the rim. The wheel disc has an axle mounting flange having a set of wheel bolt holes extending therethrough and arranged in a first inner bolt hole circle for attachment to an axle flange. A reinforcement disc is attached to the wheel disc by bolts. The reinforcement disc has an outer diameter which is larger than an outer diameter of the mounting flange. The wheel disc also includes a mounting ring which is attached to an outer portion of the mounting flange and which projects radially outwardly therefrom. The reinforcement disc has a radial width which is at least twice as large as a radial width of the mounting flange. The wheel bolt holes are used to attach the reinforcement disc to the wheel disc. A further set of bolt holes are formed in the mounting ring, and the reinforcement disc is also attached to the wheel disc by means of bolts which pass through both sets of bolt holes. An annular spacer ring is clamped between the wheel disc and the reinforcement disc.
