    • A process is disclosed for reducing the noise level created when a compressive load is placed on a bonded reticulated batt of randomly arranged pneumatic closed-cell foamed fibers so as to flex the fibers. The reduction is achieved by coating the batt, prior to coating it with an adhesive binder, with an antiadhesive which is a selected polysiloxane, a selected polyoxyethylene polyoxypropylene glycol or a selected alkyl sodium sulfonate. The anti-adhesive prevents formation of weak bonds between the fiber and the adhesive which have been found to be the source of the noise (created when the weak bonds break) but does not prevent the formation of the usual strong bonds between the fiber and the adhesive.

    • An electrically conductive base paper has on one side thereof a continuous coating of dielectric material consisting of a polymeric material deposited from an aqueous dispersion having a minimum film-forming temperature not greater than 30*C to provide an intense image with no background discolouration due to pick-up of excess toner material during processing. If desired two such coatings may be used of which each has a minimum film-forming temperature not greater than 30*C or the second of which has a minimum film-forming temperature of between 60*C and 120*C. The coating may contain an inorganic pigment material in an amount of up to about 20 percent by weight of dry polymeric material used.

    • OXIDATION AND CARBURIZATION OF STEEL SURFACES HEATED TO ELEVATED TEMPERATURES ABOVE 600* C. WHEN THE PROTECTED SURFACE IS TO BE WORKED IN A DAMP ENVIRONMENT, A WATERPROOFING COAT OF 25% SIO2 CONTENT HYDROLYZED ETHYL SILICATE SOLUTION IS APPLIED ATOP THE SEALER COAT. A MIXTURE OF THE BASE COAT AND THE SEALER COAT PROVIDES PROTECTION AGAINST PITTING OF A STEEL SURFACE LOCATED IN A DRY ENVIRONMENT WITH A SINGLE APPLICATION OF THE PROTECTIVE COATING WHILE THE INCORPORATION OR A SUITABLE CARBONATE, HYDROXIDE, OXIDE OR FLUORIDE INTO EITHER THE SEALER COAT OR THE MIXTURE OF THE BASE COAT AND THE SEALER COAT ELIMINATES THE NEED FOR A SEPARATE WATERPROOFING COAT WHEN THE ALLOY IS HEAT WORKED IN A DAMP ENVIRONMENT.
