摘要： A composite filament reinforced clevis includes a pair of apertured ends and a central hub area with a pair of clevis arms extending between the hub area and the apertured ends. The clevis is fabricated by winding reinforcing filaments around a pair of end mandrels and toward the central hub area. The end mandrels and the filaments wound thereon are rotated relative to the central hub area to a collinear orientation. The reinforcing filaments are cured with a bonding matrix while in the rotated orientation.

摘要： A pultruded part is formed from thermosetting resin which is carried on continuous longitudinal fiber reinforcement into a die which shapes the resin and fibers into the required transverse cross sectional shape and then acts to set the resin. Some of the fibers have applied thereto a second resin material of a different characteristic so that these fibers carry the second resin into the part at localized regions to form localized regions of the second resin extending longitudinally continuously of the part. This allows a resin of an increased strength to be used at areas of increased strength requirement, for example areas of screw fastening, screw ports, junction between two legs and in order to provide a thinner part for reduced thermal transfer.

摘要： Method and apparatus are disclosed for inducing dimensional stability in cured composite structures using acoustic emission analysis to identify the appropriate level and extent of coincident thermal conditioning. Temperature of the composite structure is lowered at a bounded rate to a minimum temperature typical of the intended operating environment. Passive stress wave acoustic emissions of the composite are analyzed to generate a signature of stress relaxation events over time. When the rate of stress relaxation events decreases below a predetermined percentage of the maximum rate, and remains below that level for a period of time sufficient to predict operational stability, thermal conditioning is terminated.

A pressurization line communicates between the interior of the pressure bladder and a gas source exterior to the female mold, and an evacuation line communicating between the unfilled space between the caul plate and the second portion, and a vacuum source exterior to the female mold. In using the apparatus, a workpiece is loaded into the first portion of the female mold between the caul plate and the first portion. The consolidation apparatus and the workpiece contained therein are heated, a pressure is applied to the pressurization line, and a vacuum is simultaneously applied to the evacuation line.

摘要： A method for forming a glove attachment principally for the palm of an astronaut glove to enhance the gripping area of the palm without detracting from the flexibility and utility of the glove. The attachment is a composite construction formed from a layer of silicone rubber having an outer surface with a friction configuration and an another layer of silicone rubber in which a meta-aramid mesh fabric is embedded prior to curing. The method of construction involves the use of a mold with a friction configuration surface. A first layer of silicone rubber or sealant is disposed in the mold and allowed to set for an hour. A second layer of silicone rubber or sealant is layered over the first layer and leveled. A meta-aramid mesh fabric is embedded into the second layer and the composite is permitted to cure. When cured, a configured area of the composite construction is glued or stitched to the palm area of the glove.

摘要： The inventive process forms a thermoformable preform by pressure laminating a layer of cloth fabric to one face of the thermoplastic substrate, preferably as the substrate is extruded and while still hot from the extrusion process. This fabric/thermoplastic laminated preform can be easily processed in a matched mold press. The fabric should be of a non-stretch type. This non-stretch characteristic, together with its intimate bonding to the thermoplastic substrate, prevents the substrate from thinning in the corner regions. Indeed, because the intimately bonded fabric drags or pulls the substrate from a number of directions as the corner regions are formed, the thermoplastic substrate accumulates and actually thickens in the corner regions, leading to a shell which is remarkably durable and aesthetically pleasing.

摘要： Transverse fibers are added to a pultruded part by forming a body of fibers and resin in a first die part which body is dimensioned smaller than that of the die through which the body is to be passed. A fluid including cut fibers is then applied under pressure to the body just upstream of the die so that cut fibers become integrated with the body into the spaces defined in the body. The continuous fibers, the cut fibers, and the resin are then passed through the die and become integrated into a pultruded part with the transverse cut fibers providing a transverse strength.
