    • A kit assembly for constructing an article of furniture and including a first plurality of vertically extending and elongate supports which are arranged in spaced apart fashion and a second plurality of horizontally extending and elongate cross members. Opposite ends of the elongate cross members are received within appropriately formed apertures in the vertically extending supports and additional apertures extend in cross wise and communicating fashion through the vertical supports as well as the inserted and aligning ends of the cross members. Bolt fasteners are inserted through the additional and cross wise extending apertures in both the selected vertical supports and cross members and an intermediate portion of each fastener includes an annular and outwardly angled step which, upon insertion of the bolt fastener, corresponds both in axial placement and annular dimension to an inward and angularly extending ledge of a spool shaped aperture in the cross member. A nut and washer arrangement threadably engages an oppositely projecting end of the selected bolt fastener and the nut is rotated in a tightening direction so as to generate angularly directed contact forces between the annular steps of the fastener and the spool shaped aperture and so that the cross member is fixedly secured to the vertical support.

    • A segmented shelving construction in which the vertical shelving cubic volumes are custom designed in accordance with the actual product being sold. The shelving is attached to a standard upright gondola construction consisting of a base and at least two vertical uprights per gondola. The uprights have a plurality of vertical slots to be engaged by hooks supporting the shelving. In the present invention, horizontal hanging bars with adjustable end male plugs carrying hooks to be received within the vertical upright slots are positioned at a desired height. The hanging bars then receive at least two vertical shelving standards, the shelving standards contain elongated slots near the top and bottom edges of the standards, or at any other desired location. The hanging bars are received in the vertical slots and there is sufficient room for them to be moved within the slots. Typical shelves of any desired size are supported by typical brackets having hooks to be received in a plurality of vertical slots within the vertical standards. Because of the vertical slots, variations in the vertical slots and the uprights or uneven inferior construction can easily be accommodated because of the elongated slots in the vertical standards.

    • The frame structure of the invention has a plurality of tubular uprights of circular cross-section each including a number of axially spaced ring flanges which are concentric with the respective upright and which are each formed with circumferentially distributed cut-outs of differing shapes. A plurality of bracing elements connect the respective uprights and each of them has two end portions. Each end portion is formed with an axial slot having a width at least equal to the thickness of the respective ring flanges and subdividing the respective end portion into two sections provided with registering openings extending normal to the elongation of the respective bracing element. A releasable wedge member extends through these openings across the slot and through one of the cut-outs of a ring flange which is in part located in the slot.
