摘要： An oil skimming device for the removal of oil located at the surface of a body of water includes a float, at least one skimming surface, a sorbent material, at least one scraper, and a motor. The float is arranged such that the device rests on the surface of the body of water from which the oil is to be removed. The at least one skimming surface is rotatable about an axis such that when the device is floating in the water a portion of the ridged skimming surface is above and a portion of the skimming surface is below the water surface. The sorbent material is removably attached to and substantially covers the skimming surface. The sorbent material is configured to rotate with the skimming surface and to sorb oil as the skimming surface is rotated.

摘要： This invention relates to improvements in products and processes for cleaning up oil, chemical, or other hydrocarbon spills, and cleaning up the environment where such spills have occurred. In one aspect of the invention, there is provided an adsorbent polymeric composition which is oleophilic and capable of adsorption of other chemicals and hydrocarbons from both land and water, the adsorbent composition including polyethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, catalyst, cross-linking agent, lubricant, blowing agent and a bulking agent. In a second aspect of the invention there is provided a method of manufacture of an adsorbent composition for use in retrieving and recycling oil, chemicals and hydrocarbons from land or water environments.

摘要： An oil-water separator for use in a trench, which surrounds an oilfield. The separator is positioned in the ground such that an inlet conduit extends at about the same level as the bottom of the trench. The trench water is admitted into the housing, where it contacts a plurality of buoyant oil-absorbing members, causing the oil particles to adhere to the surface of the oil-absorbing members. An outlet conduit located downstream from the oil-absorbing members is connectable to a pump to cause the oil-free water to be pumped from the housing and diverted away from the trench.

摘要： A process for forming an oil-sorbent composition of matter with bound combinations of styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) and ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) utilizes a low-temperature extrusion process. The SBS, or both materials, may be in the form of multitudes of granules. In certain preferred embodiments, the combination is 10-30% by weight and the SBS is about 30% styrene and manufactured without talc. The composition of matter can be extruded into a solid, compliant body for use in a product for absorbing oil. The material can be extruded, in one preferred embodiment, into an extended cylinder body having an axial hole.

摘要： One or more water- and oil-porous containers or sacks are made of a pair of mesh sheets affixed together and stiffened around their perimeter. The sacks can be partially filled with a multitude of tubular bodies made of an oil-entrapping polymer, which have their longest dimension parallel to an axial hole. A preferred material is composed of a combination of SBS and EPDM, formed by an extrusion technique, to create highly fissured generally cylindrical bodies. The sacks may be deployed in areas where oil is floating on water, such as where oil has spilled from tankers on oceans, seas, lakes, or rivers. When the bodies are afloat, oily water can pass through the axial holes of and around the bodies, maximizing the surface area contacted by the oil and minimizing gel blocking. After a time sufficient for the bodies in the sacks to adsorb oil, the sacks can be collected. Various deployment and collection methods are disclosed. After collection, the oil may be recycled; alternatively the sacks may be incinerated, to recover the energy content for use as power while disposing of the oil.

摘要： A storm drain filter system apparatus includes a skimmer tray having a sediment collection closed bottom and having an inlet side and an outlet side and a hydrocarbon absorbing boom. A plurality of boom support brackets each has a boom holding portion for holding the boom therein and a spacing arm extending from the boom holding portion and attached to one side of the skimmer tray to space the boom in the boom holding portion between the inlet side and the outlet side of the skimmer tray. The skimmer tray extends all or partly around the storm drain opening forming an open center area to allow overflow liquid to flow over the outlet side through the middle area. Sediment is collected in the bottom of the skimmer tray and the boom is supported spaced between the inlet and outlet side of the skimmer tray to capture hydrocarbons and liquid entering the skimmer tray. The liquid enters the skimmer tray on one side of the boom and out the other side of the boom. The boom is supported at the liquid level of the skimmer tray so that the liquid is forced therearound allowing the boom to collect the hydrocarbons and the sediment to settle in the bottom.
