    • The invention relates to a plug element (10), in particular for producing capacitors (C), which comprises three sections (1, 2, 3) in the direction of its longitudinal extent, wherein a first section (1) has a tapered shape at one end of the plug element (10), said tapered shape complementing a shape of a third section (3) at that end of the plug element (10) which is averted from the first section (1), and wherein a second section (2) is arranged between the first and the third section (1, 3), said second section connecting the first and the third section (1, 3) to one another. The invention also relates to a plug system (100) comprising plug elements (10) by means of which (cylindrical) capacitors (C) can be created, wherein electrically conductive layers (L1, D, L2, U) of the capacitor (C) which is formed from the plug system (100) simultaneously form a conduction structure of an inductor.

    • A combined direct current DC power transmission and heating system is provided. The system includes a rectifier station configured to generate a DC link current. The system also includes a downstream converter station positioned remotely from the rectifier station. The downstream converter station is configured to generate power supplied to an electrical load using at least a portion of the DC link current. The system also includes a return conductor electrically coupled to the rectifier station and the downstream converter station. The return conductor is configured to transmit a return current from the downstream converter station to the rectifier station. The return conductor is also configured to generate heat from resistive losses induced by the return current; and conduct the heat generated by the return current to a fluid being transported from a proximity of the downstream converter station to a proximity of the rectifier station.

    • A system for heating hydrocarbon resources in a subterranean formation having a wellbore therein includes a coaxial transmission line, a balun, and a radio frequency (RF) antenna coupled together in series and configured to be positioned in the wellbore so that the RF antenna heats the hydrocarbon resources in the subterranean formation. The coaxial transmission line includes an inner conductor and an outer conductor surrounding the inner conductor. The balun includes an outer conductive sleeve having a proximal end coupled to the outer conductor of the coaxial transmission line and a medial portion coupled to the inner conductor of the coaxial transmission line. The balun also includes an inner tubular conductor extending longitudinally within the outer conductive sleeve between the outer conductor of the coaxial transmission line and the RF antenna.
