    • A facsimile apparatus is provided which can enhance the operability and usefulness of portable image reading devices when transmitting documents and which allows effective utilization of the image reading device. The facsimile apparatus includes a main unit and a separable handscanner between which image signals and various control signals are transmitted using an optical communication technique. A document is scanned by a handscanner that generates signals representing the document image. The image signals are temporarily stored in an image memory and transmitted to the main unit when necessary. Depending on the hook state of the telephone, the main unit either transmits the received image signals to a remote station or records the image on recording paper. When the main unit receives image signals over a telephone network, the received image signals are transmitted to the handscanner for storage into the image memory when necessary. This is done for example, when the so-called memory reception mode is set or when a recording section in the main unit is in a non-normal state.

    • An image forming system includes an image forming apparatus having a light emitter and an information terminal performing visible light communication and normal communication with the image forming apparatus. The image forming apparatus includes a visible light output unit outputting information stored in the image forming apparatus through visible light communication using the light emitter, and an output control unit controlling operation of the visible light output unit. The information terminal includes a light receiver, and an information acquisition unit acquiring visible light communication information based on information obtained by receiving visible light with the light receiver. The information acquisition unit gives a light emission communication start request to the output control unit through the normal communication with the image forming apparatus. When the light emission communication start request is received and the visible light output unit is stopping outputting information, the output control unit allows output of information.

    • A system, method and computer program product for optically transferring a digital data file to a mobile electronic device having a video capturing function uses an instruction set hosted on a system of the type having a computer and memory storage connected to a video transmitter and a video display unit. The data transferring method encodes the digital data file into a plurality of discrete elements according to a pattern protocol. A portion of the video signal transmission is dedicated to display the pattern, and the encoded digital data file is embedded in the video signal transmission. The video signal transmission is transmitted to and displayed on the video display. A user directs the mobile electronic device at the video display and captures the video display including the encoded pattern representing the digital data file. The pattern is then decoded into a copy of the digital data file.
