    • A deflection yoke includes a horizontal deflection coil, a vertical deflection coil, an insulating frame made of an insulating material, a deflection adjusting plate attached to an outer circumferential surface of the insulating frame, and a ferrite core covering at least a part of an outer circumference of the insulating frame. The deflection adjusting plate is fixed to the outer circumferential surface of the insulating frame, under the condition of being surrounded by a high-soft resin material with a hardness of 10 to 60. Because of this, even when the deflection adjusting plate vibrates during driving, the deflection adjusting plate does not directly bump into the insulating frame, so that the noise generated by the deflection yoke can be reduced significantly.

A defocusing mechanism defocuses the first color component signal based on the filtered first color component signal. A gain adjustment device adjusts a gain of at least one other of a plurality of color component signals of the composite signal. An amount of defocusing performed by the defocusing mechanism and a gain adjustment by the gain adjustment device are dependent on a content of the composite signal. In another aspect of the invention, a spot wobble scheme may be employed alone in a static defocussing system, without dependence upon the video signal content.

Then, the electron beams R and B are corrected so as to move downward and upward (or upward and downward) respectively by the quadrupole magnetic field generated by the pair of bar-shaped magnets. Thus, a misconvergence due to the rotational shift of the electron beams can be corrected.

Similarly, the exposed surface area of the saddle-type vertical deflection coil is predetermined to be from 55 to 185 cm.sup.2.
