    • A motor operator for switchgear (1) for use in mains power distribution systems such as public medium high voltage distribution systems, where the switchgear comprises a closed cabinet (2) with an operating shaft (6) accessible from the front surface (4). The operating shaft is rotatable at least between two positions and has, a coupling part. The motor operator comprises a worm gear in a separate worm gear housing (11), which is mountable on the external surface of the switchgear cabinet. An adapter (21) with a connection shaft (22) is located in a recess in the worm wheel (16). The worm of the worm gear is connected to a motor which could be located remotely from the worm gear housing and connected to the worm preferably by means of a flexible shaft (15). This renders it possible to mount the motor operator in confined spaces.

    • An apparatus for remotely actuating a circuit breaker with two stable positions corresponding to a switch-on position and a switch-off position, has a drive mechanism with an electric motor. The apparatus further has first and second switches for switching the motor on and off, a transmission, a coupling mechanism for mechanically coupling the drive mechanism to the circuit breaker and a lever. The transmission can be positioned in two basic positions, and the lever is capable of being moved from a first end position into a second end position with the aid of the drive mechanism. The drive mechanism is configured such that, in the event of the lever being moved over manually from one end position into the other end position, one of the switches is actuated, with the result that the transmission is moved over from one basic position into the other basic position.

    • A control circuit operates a dual directional DC motor from an AC power source. A controller has first and second position indication inputs adapted to receive respective first and second position indications. The controller also has first and second direction outputs, which respectively energize one of two first relay coils having contacts outputting respective AC voltages responsive to the direction outputs. A full wave bridge rectifier receives the AC voltage and responsively outputs a DC voltage, which energizes a second relay coil. A contact thereof directs that voltage to two sets of first relay contacts, which are also responsive to the direction outputs, and which respectively provide a positive or negative DC voltage to the motor. Another second relay coil contact provides a braking action to the motor responsive to removal of the DC voltage from the rectifier output following removal of the AC voltage to the rectifier.

    • A switching device changes over breaking and closing of an electric current by opening/closing a contact portion. An electrically-operated motor generates energy for closing a contact and energy generated by the rotation of the electrically-operated motor is accumulated in a breaking spring. The energy generated by the electrically-operated motor is transmitted to the contact by way of a cam, a breaking spring link, a transfer lever and the like. The breaking spring is arranged in the midst of the converting lever. When the contact is opened, the electrically-operated motor is stopped and the energy accumulated in the breaking spring is released.

    • An automatic transfer switch comprising a pair of molded case switches, a novel cam drive mechanism and a lever linkage is provided to assure a programmed timed sequence of contact transfer so that arc extinction is achieved in load transfer and re-transfer between normal and emergency power sources, thereby preventing source to source short circuits. To prevent motor override from disturbing the cam during stopping, declutching or escapement means is provided to separate the drive pin in the cam plate from the motor drive. Improved transfer for motor loads may be achieved by additional escapement and time delay intervals in the transfer between normal and emergency sources. To facilitate the starting and stopping of the motor drive, auxiliary contact means are provided which coact with the outside periphery of the cam plate to open and to close the incoming power for the electric motor drive. The toggle of each molded case switch is positioned in precise relationship by the cam mechanism to insure that only one toggle is in the on position at any one time. An auxiliary mechanical interlock which is operated by the molded case switch contacts is provided to assure that contacts of the two molded case switches cannot be closed simultaneously. Load connectors can be mounted to either the top or bottom of a novel bus bar arrangement which allows easy attachment of incoming load cables. An easily detachable mounting for the two molded case switches on the vertically extending bus bars is provided whereby both molded case switches can be replaced without the disconnection of external power conductors.

    • A load break switch having two independent energy-storing spring drives, one for opening the switch, and one for closing the switch, is disclosed. Movement of a loading arm in one direction drives an opening cam to load one spring drive for opening the switch. Movement of the loading arm in a second direction drives a closing cam that loads a second spring drive which closes the open switch. A linear induction motor or hand lever drives the loading arm. A solenoid-operated or manually operated trigger controls unlatching of the switch opening drive. The solenoid is controlled by a circuit for detecting the occurrence of hazardous electrical conditions.
