    • A user-friendly system for real time performance and user modification of one or more previously recorded musical compositions facilitates user involvement in the creative process of a new composition that reflects the user's personal style and musical tastes. Such a system may be implemented in a small portable electronic device such as a handheld smartphone that includes a stored library of musical material including original and alternative versions of each of several different components of a common original musical composition, and a graphic user interface that allows the user to select at different times while that original composition is being performed, which versions of which components are to be incorporated to thereby create in real time a new performance that includes elements of the original performance, preferably enhanced at various times with user selected digital sound effects including stuttering and filtering. The system may also optionally comprise a visualizer module that renders a visual animation that is responsive to at least the rhythm and amplitude of the system's audio output, not only for entertainment value but also to provide visual feedback for the user.

    • In order to efficiently retrieve AV data by using signal characteristics as retrieval conditions, in a first step, a comparison and determination section computes a correlation coefficient (degree of similarity) of a spectrum coefficient of coded audio data and a spectrum coefficient of a sample waveform, and extracts correlation coefficients such that the value of the computed spectrum coefficient is larger than a threshold value which is set in the first step, and assumes them to be retrieval results. In a second step, the comparison and determination section determines whether or not the retrieval result is satisfactory. When it is determined that the number of pieces of audio data retrieved in the first step is equal to or greater than the predetermined threshold value and the retrieval result is not satisfactory, the process proceeds to a third step. In the third step, the comparison and determination section determines whether or not the number of frequency bands of the sample waveform, which is the retrieval conditions, is less than its maximum value. When it is determined that the number of frequency bands is less than its maximum value, in a fourth step, the number of frequency bands of the waveform signal, which is the retrieval conditions, is incremented by 1, and the process returns to the first step.

    • A method of setting an equalizer so as to enlarge a sound field in reproducing an audio file and a method of reproducing an audio file thereby, includes: dividing an input audio file into segments with a predetermined time length; extracting an audio feature value for each segment; determining equalizer information for reproducing each segment by the use of the extracted feature value; and determining an equalizer sequence for the audio file by the use of the determined equalizer information of each segment. Since the equalizer setting information can be automatically changed without user manipulation, the user can listen to an audio file of which the sound field is dynamically enlarged.
