    • A rapid mass production of the high performance holographic recording articles including the process and composition are described. To prepare a high performance holographic recording article based on two-component urethane matrix system, for example, polyols and all the additives must be virtually free of moisture contents. Deaeration must be carried out, once isocyanate and polyols including catalysts and all other ingredients are mixed together, to eliminate all entrapped air that is introduced into the mixture during mixing. The deaeration takes time, and the urethane reaction must not be allowed to take place until all air bubbles are evacuated from the isocyanate-polyols mixture. The rapid mass production of this invention overcomes such process limitations and results in a high-volume production of the high performance holographic recording articles.

    • There are provided a recording material for holograms characterized by low corruption of recorded data with time, a manufacturing method thereof, a recording medium for holograms, a hologram recording method and a hologram reproduction method. The recording material for holograms of this invention comprises a metal oxide porous body provided with an oxygen donor substance in the pores. In the recording material for holograms, recording is accomplished by increasing the oxygen content of the metal oxide porous body with oxygen from the oxygen donor substance produced upon irradiation of recording light. The irradiated sites undergo no further alteration even with additional light irradiation, and the heat-induced volume fluctuations are negligible. The recording material for holograms exhibits reduced corruption of recorded data with time when subjected to repeated reproduction or when the recorded medium is stored for long periods.

    • The present invention is directed to a holographic media that is composed of a mixture of a photosensitive substance such as a photopolymer and a porous rigid material such as an aerogel that provides a substructure to the composite material. This unique composition of matter can be utilized in a multitude of applications where a thick optically patterned wavefront modulating media is required, including as a holographic storage device. The composite material avoids the difficulties regarding shrinkage found in plain photopolymers. The rigid highly porous component is specially treated to receive the photosensitive material. This unshrinkable substructure has a plurality of very small, rigid pores that is essentially transparent at optical wavelengths and provides the matrix for the photopolymers. It provides holographic recording in both thin and thick formats without shrinkage and pattern distortion. The method of producing the composite holographic media is also disclosed.
