摘要： A fixing device wherein a toner image on a paper sheet passing either of two paper paths can be fixed by means of a single heat roll. The fixing device comprises a single heat roll, a pair of pressure rolls for contacting under pressure with the heat roll, and a pair of paper passing means for individually passing a paper sheet to a pair of contact positions at which the heat roll normally contacts with the pressure rolls. By selectively passing a paper sheet having a toner image thereon to one of the contact positions with the toner image opposed to the heat roll, the toner image is fixed to the paper sheet by heat and mechanical pressure of the heat roll and the pressure rolls.

The printing operation is conducted at one of a first high-temperature printing pace, a first low-temperature printing pace, a second high-temperature printing pace, and a second low-temperature printing pace depending on a temperature detected by the temperature sensor. The first low-temperature printing pace is one of lower and equal to the first high-temperature printing pace. The second low-temperature printing pace is one of lower and equal to the second high-temperature printing pace. An absolute difference between the second high-temperature printing pace and the second low-temperature printing pace is greater than an absolute difference between the first high-temperature printing pace and the first low-temperature printing pace.

摘要： An apparatus forms unfixed toner images on receiving sheets and fixes the images using a fuser having at least one heated roller. A temperature control means for the roller has a run set point and a standby set point. The apparatus monitors the formation of images. If the formation is interrupted, which would result in a skipped sheet at the fuser, set point for the fuser is adjusted toward the standby set point. The invention is particularly usable in a printer in which skip frames develop because a raster image processor is unable to form pages as fast as the printer can print pages.
