    • Disclosed is an alignment system for a vertical lathe, the lathe configured to perform a cutting process on a workpiece (W) mounted on a circular turn table (3) by rotating the workpiece (W), and the alignment system configured to, when the lathe performs the cutting process on an unbalanced eccentric workpiece, perform a center alignment operation for correcting imbalance. The alignment system includes an alignment mechanism which includes: multiple alignment weights (13) provided movable along an outer periphery (3a) of the circular turn table (3); and a movement mechanism (15) configured to move the alignment weights along the outer periphery (3a) of the turn table (3). The alignment system further includes a control unit (7) configured to calculate setting positions for the alignment weights (13), and to set the alignment weights (13) at the calculated setting positions using the movement mechanism (15), in order to correct the imbalance.

    • An improved system for monitoring vibration of an electric machine is disclosed. According to one embodiment, sensors are positioned in a plane orthogonal to the motor shaft and each sensor detects vibration along at least one axis of the motor. The sensors are oriented such that the polarity of each sensor is reversed. The pairs of sensors may be used to isolate specific vibrations within the motor. According to another embodiment, a sensor may be mounted directly to the motor shaft. The sensor on the motor shaft directly detects vibrations along the motor shaft. Optionally, a second sensor may be mounted to a fixed location within the motor housing, and the combination of the sensor on the motor shaft and the sensor at a fixed location may be used to isolate specific vibrations within the motor. A motor controller may adjust operation of the motor to reduce the isolated vibration.

In some aspects, the devices, systems, and methods can provide improved balancing techniques and can include providing a controller configured to simultaneously measure/receive vibration data and control balancers, one balancer at a time. In some aspects, the controller can calculate a beating cycle or a beating period using vibration data received from multiple rotating machines. In some aspects, a balance correction command can be derived in part from either one of: (a) an interpolation of an average vibration of the first rotating machine from a complex vibration of the multiple rotating machines or (b) an average vibration derived from one or more rules applied based upon the duration of the beating period or the beating cycle.
