摘要： The present invention concerns a firing switch for a downhole ballistics device. More particularly, but not exclusively, this invention concerns a firing switch for a downhole ballistics device and a method of operating the firing switch. The invention also concerns various safety features relating to the firing switch. A firing switch arrangement for a downhole perforating gun (26, 28, 30, 32, 34) is provided, and comprises a firing switch (26′, 28′, 30′, 32′, 34′), and a detonator (40), the detonator arranged to be activated in response to an electrical signal from the firing switch. A removable safety tab (42) is associated with the detonator, the removable safety tab arranged to provide a short circuit to the detonator, such that the short circuit is removed if the removable safety tab is removed.

摘要： Detonation control modules and detonation control circuits are provided herein. A trigger input signal can cause a detonation control module to trigger a detonator. A detonation control module can include a timing circuit, a light-producing diode such as a laser diode, an optically triggered diode, and a high-voltage capacitor. The trigger input signal can activate the timing circuit. The timing circuit can control activation of the light-producing diode. Activation of the light-producing diode illuminates and activates the optically triggered diode. The optically triggered diode can be coupled between the high-voltage capacitor and the detonator. Activation of the optically triggered diode causes a power pulse to be released from the high-voltage capacitor that triggers the detonator.

摘要： A detonator system is provided for use with explosives that utilizes two subsystems. A first subsystem functions as a non-explosives based detonator, which does not contain any explosives. The second subsystem is an initiating subsystem, which includes an initiating pellet. To set off an explosive event, the non-energetics based detonator is coupled to the initiating subsystem and the non-energetics based detonator is commanded to provide a suitable signal to the initiating subsystem that is sufficient to function the initiating pellet. Further, the initiating subsystem can be integrated directly into an associated explosive such as a booster that has been configured to receive the initiator subsystem without changing the hazard class of the booster.

An insulative material can be molded within the passage to form an insulative structural member that joins the canister and pins to the outer body and insulates the pins and a portion of the canister from electrical contact with the outer body. An electrostatic discharge dissipater can be formed from an electrically conductive material and can be molded to the outer body. The dissipater can provide a controlled dissipation path for electrostatic discharge energy carried by the initiator assembly.
